 Re: Ty retiring?
Ha, Sorenson is a friend of mine. I'm actually his "rocksolid source."
Ty has already announced it to the baseball staff and interviews to replace him have begun. No idea why there hasn't been a public announcement.
Steven Trout will probably get offered the job because he graduated from TCU.

Hearing to expect an email soon and press conference tomorrow.
You think Trout is a serious candidate or is that tongue-in-cheek?
Names we've thrown out at the other site that we'd think would get consideration: Matt Deggs Derek Matlock Kirk Saarloos Pat Hallmark

 Re: Ty retiring?
Kirk Saarloos is not coming here. He'd be taking a paycut if he did. He'll go to a major school if he leaves TCU.
I would be fine with Matlock coming back. He's a good guy and a great coach. That we had our best success while he was here is not a coincidence. Neither is the fact that we spiraled down after he left.
Deggs does have a nice resume.

 Re: Ty retiring?
I would love to see us go after Tripp Couch, who took an assistant job at South Carolina a couple of years ago. Things aren't so smooth there any more, and he might be willing to take a pay cut to run a program in his home state.

 Re: Ty retiring?
New coach will have to build a brand new weekend rotation with all 3 drafted this year (McMahon, Fraze, Reich). That could be a difficult rebuild for the next guy from a starting pitching perspective.

 Re: Ty retiring?
Quote: “I chaired the search committee when Ty was hired 20 years ago,” Texas State athletics director Larry Teis. “Ty mentioned to me six weeks ago that he has been a head coach all his life and wanted to try something new. I tried to talk him out of retirement then and did so up until the end.” So now he tried to talk both Fran and Ty out of retiring. I guess that's easier than hiring someone to replace them.
