Post Wiki Excerpt from PJ Fleck's first season at WMU (1-11)
Fleck's first season as Broncos head coach resulted in a final record of 1–11 (1–7 Mid-American Conference (MAC))... Injuries, youth and inexperience, discipline, and execution led to poor play.." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P._J._Fleck

This was in 2013. The Broncos are now 8-0 with a legitimate shot of winning out and going to the Cotton Bowl.

Have hope for the future, Bobcat Bros..

EDIT (more quotes):

"Despite the on-field difficulties in 2013, Fleck and his staff succeeded off the field by signing a highly-ranked recruiting class. Observers noted that it was possibly the best recruiting class in WMU history..."

I missed this game but obviously, it doesn't seem like I "missed" anything.

Wither's Post Conference: https://youtu.be/53Za7vt6-wE

Some were arguing on twitter about Wither's comments about losing culture here and did comment having 7-5 then 3-9 seasons... some feel it was a jab at Fran. I don't...care!

Take aways:
1 We are that 2-5 record; we are not good enough in a lot of spots/Dysfunctional program "week 8 and still late for workouts"
2 LEADERSHIP LACKING; asked about senior leadership and he said "We got 16 seniors..."
3 Looking to see if young players can step up and play, specifically stated OL and he did say "it can't get any worse".
4 If a 2016 signee can't break into starting lineup, we are recruiting (next class) for someone to pass them up. He told the current signees (2016 class) this.
5 We only signed like 10 guys (rest were already committed) and 2017 class is really our first class. MY NOTE: Most of those 10 have already played compared to the rest of the 2016 class (Vinson, Eastling, Tutt, Brewer, Hayes, Morbley, Nikolas, Taylor, Graham, Miller that I can remember) and only a few "already" committed ones have played like Rushing and Waddy.

Long story short, we are a long ways from where we or Wither's wants. It sort of reminds me of Dallas Cowboys Jimmy Johnson saying in that ESPN "Great Train Robbery" when Cowboys traded Hershel Walker... that the Cowboys were "80 players away from a championship caliber team". We may not be 80 players away but we're likely half of that if not more.

I'm on board with playing players that will be here for next 3 years over those that aren't getting it done.. at this point... what is the purpose???

I don't think he is finished running off/cleansing the team. Sounds like he is trying to get some kids to transfer out to free up some transfers in.

there's no need to free up any room. we have nothing but room right now w/ only 66 players on scholarship.

Agree with Saul on this one. I don't think Withers is going to have to push any players off.

Of the 16 seniors he referred to on this team, 10 are on depth chart. I wouldn't be surprised if that continues to change in the coming games. We have 5 more games and if the seniors aren't leaders, then begin teaching the young ones to learn how to become one.

Right now Withers has realized he is going to have to show this whole athletic dept not only how to set the bar high but also how to get over it.

This is the key. It's a long way until signing day but we currently have the best crop of 2017 commits in the Sun Belt despite being 10th in the standings and we have one of the only three 2018 commits in the league so far.

Winning recruiting is probably more important than winning games this year.

Lightbulb :)

October Saul should have had a heart to heart with January Everett. You can't get rid of 19 players you don't have, otherwise you get into a deficit situation (66). If you could run a surplus of 19 good players then by all means get rid of 19. Like his game plan, numbers clearly aren't Everett's forte. We can't go head to head with teams that haven't kicked off all their good players when we have, not even in the sub-belt. If nobody graduated or left after this season we would still be in a huge defecit. The end of being short on bodies is nowhere in sight and that's more frustrating than having more than double the losses as wins. Anyone remember when we beat Tulsa, Wyoming and USM? Who would have thought those would be the glory days. Unreal

I'm 100% onboard with the notion that I didn't buy into before. That being..it seems much easier to start a new program and go straight to FBS than spending 20+ years of fcs before jumping to FBS with the muffin fran. Can we cancel our program altogether this season and then start a new one in 2017? Do recall we already lost 2 of likely what would have been our 10 best 2016 freshman recruits Devin Williams and Tyler Tutt

Hypothetically if we had never had a football program before and started a brand new program in 2017 like UTSA did in 2011 how many players could we take in our first season? All 85?
