Just at first glimpse, that would make the Big Sky possibly the strongest conference in FCS. I could see some epic battles for their conference championship.

On top of that, they'd have a good presence in a couple states. That would be a big help with recruiting. Good to see that the Big Sky is/might really be coming on strong here.

I think this may be a good sign for our WAC chances. I couldn't see the Big Sky going out of their way to add these members if they are only going to be there for 2-3 years...

More and more press coming out that UC-Davis and Cal Poly will both join the Big Sky as FOOTBALL-only members...

Would be interested to see what South Dakota, North Dakota and Southern Utah do... the Southland does not want affiliate members and the schools may have to push the Summit League to add football (the league is currently in a study regarding that possibility) in an effort to stabilize their Div I programs...

The Big Sky is probably doing a pre-emptive measure to protect from the WAC??? Cal Poly and UC-Davis may not be ready for FBS as many have indicated and this gives those schools long-term stability as football conference members.

Oddly enough, the Big Sky was against affiliate members and must have voted to allow it.

Sports Network write-up...

Quote:
"This is an extremely exciting day for our football program and the institution," UC Davis athletic director Greg Warzecka said. "Our fans will not only be able to watch some great teams come to Aggie Stadium, but they will have a much better opportunity to travel to road games."

"Our goal all along has been to find stability for our football program, and the Big Sky Conference gives us exactly what we needed," Cal Poly athletic director Alison Cone said. "The Big Sky Conference is one of the best FCS conferences in the country and offers great competition with teams that are natural rivals in our region."

This may be an eye-opener for some TXST, UTSA fans... just think if the California schools say it makes absolutely no-sense, it would be a far greater financial burden on the Texas schools - right? The California schools are much more "regional" to the WAC.

Quote:
The biggest thing that this says is that FCS teams – especially the ones out west – are not as enticed by the WAC as some people seem to think. UC athletic director Greg Warzecka and Cal Poly athletic director Alison Cone are expected to talk today about how a move to the WAC made absolutely no sense for either school financially.

Mr Benson and his commitee need to get a move on. The western FCS schools appear to be circling the wagons, need to invite Sac St, TXSt and UTSA now!!!!!

Post Big Sky Conference expands
UC Davis and Cal Poly are moving their football to BSC.

What impact could this have on western fcs teams and the future of the WAC

Cal Poly's schedule won't take too much to mess around with, I figure.

They came out and said that they could still schedule two FBS games and not really worry, because they can fight it out for an AQ for once...

Another thing is they got time before '12. I'm sure Cal Poly and UC-Davis can easily maneuver around their future schedules and host/return games in later years. Many of the games this year can be returned next year and they'll be fine.

And FYI - Southern Utah is a conference game for them. SUU is in the Great West. ;)

I think we're in like flint. The Cal schools other than Montana were our biggest competition. Between the WAC forming an expansion committee and then TX State "coincidentally" announcing a day later the stadium expansion the writing is on the wall. I am honestly having a hard time seeing how we do not get picked. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah, I was going to point out all the away games in a row but my brain took a left turn and I got lost

Just looking at this MAP, talk about some great roadtrips. Beats the hell out of Huntsville and certain parts of Louisiana.
