You missed the "experience" by not having a Manske Roll.

That's the only reason you go to Gil's. That and the cheap booze.

It's not that Gil's burgers are good...in fact, they're quite plain...it's the $1 burger $1 beer night on Mondays that makes Gil's great.

Back in the mid '80s, the only culinary establishment this poor college student could afford was Le Belle de Taco and soft tacos were $ .29 each...that's right I said it .... $ .29 each!

I got through school because I lived on "The Bell" for four years! For sustenance, it was all I had...

I got no where else to go...I got..nothing

When I was living in Buckner in the '80s, I used to walk over to this little shack called "Gringo's" for .39 tacos. Greasy but cheap and convenient. It was a block down Guadalupe from the old Catholic Student Center and kind of across the street from the big white mansion (which I guesss it a visitor or admissions center now). But they tore Gringo's down long ago. But my favorite places back then were Grins, Pepper's and Palmer's. The burgers at Grins were thick and juicy, and the pitchers of sangria made the afternoon float by. But the last time I was at Grins, the burgers were dry and blah. Plus, I hate the front area they added on about 10 or 12 years ago -- very institutional. The back part with the decks is still nice, though. As for Palmer's, I guess my experience is different from CatManDo's. I still love it and go there everytime I'm down for a football game. And nobody else has a courtyard like that -- it's a great place to relax with a drink.
