Post vehicle repair question
anybody on here ever replaced an AC Compressor, receiver drier & orifice tube on a car? The AC compressor has come apart internally, with bits & pieces appearing to have ruined the orifice tube & receiver drier as well. Mechanic estimate was $1,500. I'm mechanically inclined enough to take it on myself--it looks somewhat similar to swapping out an alternator--except that I don't have experience flushing an AC system.

Any wise words? Normally I'd be hitting up my dad on this for suggestions, but they're off gallivanting around the country being the ultimate retired cliche.

Not that it is any direct help, but I would look for a forum for your vehicle and do a search there. Amazingly, I've found forums for everything from the exotic to the mundane (really mundane) and I can't think of a repair for which I haven't found a DIY, usually with pictures or a video.

If you can't find it, ask (and endure the painful "use the search" comments) and someone will probably know where to look.

Sorry I don't have an answer myself. I haven't had AC issues, but I've tackled some pretty serious jobs with the help of auto forums.

Yep... You nailed it on why I haven't asked on an automotive function. Seems none of these sites have search functions worth a damn. I've looked at a few videos, but I felt they made it look deceptively easy given the standard hourly charge Ford has for this type of repair.

I'll go endure the hard knocks on an automotive site now.
