Soccer wins conference opener 4-0 against the Warhawks.

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State soccer team opened Sun Belt Conference play with statement victory over ULM by the score of 4-0 Friday night at the Bobcat Soccer Complex for the team's third annual Teal Match. Kaylee Davis paced the team with a two-goal performance, netting one in each half.

With the win, the Bobcats improve to 3-5-0 overall and are 1-0-0 in conference play while the Warhawks remain winless on the season at 0-8-0 and 0-1-0 in the Sun Belt.

ULM recorded the first shot of the match midway through the fifth minute when Alexiss Trudeau attempt curled way wide of the left post. That would be the Warhawks only shot attempt until the second half.

Davis had a great opportunity in the 11th minute but sent the ball just past the outside of the right post. Three minutes later saw the Allen, Texas native and Mackenzie Smith put back-to-back shots on goal in a six-second span that were both stopped by the goalkeeper.

The breakthrough came in the 16th minute when Smith won a sliding challenge from around 25 yards out. The ball rolled to Davis, who took a two touches before sending the ball into the lower left corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.

Early in the 27th minute, Renny Moore had an opportunity to increase the lead when a Warhawk fouled a Bobcat in the box for a penalty kick. The sophomore went high with her shot but sent it just over the crossbar.

Adding to the lead in the 39th minute was Genesis Turman. The junior dribbled up field and took a long attempt that bounced past the keeper and inside the right post for her first goal of the season.

ULM came out aggressive after halftime and threatened Heather Martin for the first time late in the 49th minute. Camryn Ciaramella's shot was heading to the upper right corner until Martin made a leaping save to tip the ball over the bar.

Davis increase the lead to 3-0 in the last half of the 51st minute. She used her speed to get past two defenders and sent a rocket into the left side netting from a tough angle on the right side for her fifth goal of the season.

Martin followed with another leaping stop in the 54th minute when Trudeau unleashed a shot from about 45 yards out. The shutout nearly came to an end three minutes later when the Warhawks sent in a low cross to the back post to an open Mackenzie Bell. Luckily, she miss hit her opportunity that Martin was able to easily pick up.

Sarah Everett almost found the back of the net in the 56th minute off a free kick. With the ball just outside the 18-yard box, the sophomore's high attempt had a little too much on it as it buzzed the crossbar just above the upper left corner.

The final goal of the night came in the 64th minute. Moore sent in a corner kick from the right side that buzzed over Sydney Kammer's head. The ball was corralled by Smith, who sent her shot into the upper portion of the netting for her first career goal.

Davis led all players with 11 shots and one shy of tying her career-high and program record setting mark set last year. Tonight's total is tied for the second most in program history with Jerelyn Lemmie, who accomplished the mark versus The Citadel on Sept. 16, 2004.

Both Haley Groff and Smith took four shot attempts apiece. Also recording multiple shots on the night with two each were Hannah Solano and Moore.

Overall, TXST finished with 30 shots and placed 15 on goal. The team's shot total is tied for the 15th most in a single-match in program history. It is also the first time that the Bobcats have had at least 30 shots in a contest since taking 34 on Oct. 23, 2016 at home against ULM.

Martin finished the night with four saves, all of which came in the second half. It was her second shutout of the season and eighth in her career. The victory gave her 17 in a Texas State uniform and tied Mandi Mawyer (2007-09) for sixth in program history.

Next up for TXST is a trip to Houston for the final non-conference match of the season on Sunday against Houston Baptist at 7 p.m.

in case no one is paying attention, and by the looks of this thread, you aren't, the bobcats are undefeated in conference play w/ 2 games left. home this weekend against gast (6-9-1, 4-4) and coastal (7-6-1, 6-2).

we are 2 games up in the standings, so we've almost clinched top seed (coastal is in 2nd). anything other than getting swept and we will be the top seed come tourney time.

also, kaylee davis is tied for 3rd in the nation w/ 14 goals. this just in: she's pretty good.

Soccer tied with Georgia State. The final game is Sunday against Coastal Carolina.

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw against a tough Georgia State squad Friday evening at the Bobcat Soccer Complex. The draw prevented the Bobcats from clinching a share of the Sun Belt Conference regular season title and makes Sunday's match a must win to claim it.

With the draw, TXST is now 9-5-2 on the season and remains undefeated in conference play at 7-0-2 while the Panthers are 6-9-2 overall and 4-4-1 in the Sun Belt. The Bobcats' nine-match unbeaten streak is tied for the third longest in program history, matching a streak set from Oct. 9 through Nov. 6, 2011.

Renny Moore took the first shot of the match in the third minute when she cut inside and took an attempt from just inside the box on the left side. Her slightly curving shot was caught by the goalkeeper to keep the match scoreless.

In the seventh minute, GSU's Brisa Zavala passed the ball over to an open Lily Barron on the left side. Barron's shot got by Heather Martin but a Bobcat defender was able to get back and attempt to clear the ball away. Unfortunately, the clearance went straight into the top of the net for an own goal and 1-0 Panthers advantage.

Just over a minute later Mackenzie Smith nearly tied the match when her shot was tipped away by the keeper for a corner kick. Moore whipped in the corner kick and the ball was knocked out of the 18-yard box by a GSU defender. Jordan Kondikoff was able to keep the ball within the offensive third and sent a high looping shot towards the right side of frame that was caught but mishandled by the goalie. A TXST player was there to knock the ball in but the goal was waived off for being offside.

Kaylee Davis almost put one in from just outside the penalty box in the 26th minute. The ball rattled the crossbar and stay in play. That allowed another look on frame from Smith that again saw the Panther goalkeeper tip the ball just past the left post.

Smith's third attempt on goal came in halfway through the 49th minute off another corner kick from Moore. She headed ball towards the goal but was unable to get enough power on it as the Panthers' Madi Card knocked the ball down and was cleared away by a defender.

Late in the 72nd minute, Paige Crossman had a go at goal after the ball was knocked around following a cross. Her shot ended up going straight at the goalie.

Halfway through the 78th minute, Davis was able to flick the ball past center defensive back Ava Jouvenel. As the junior forward spun to beat Jouvenel and only having to beat one more defender for a one-on-one opportunity with the keeper, Jouvenel intentionally tangled her legs with Davis' and was called for a foul. She got away with nearly smacking Davis in the face while the Allen, Texas native was trying to get untangled from her. Brooke Smith was issued a yellow card after coming over and shoving Davis.

The Bobcats were unable to take advantage of the ensuing free kick from just over midfield. They did catch a break when a GSU defender tried to control the ball in the 18-yard box but it hit off her hand away from her body and award TXST with a penalty kick.

Davis stepped up and sunk her the penalty kick into the left side of the netting to knot the score at 1-1 with eight minutes left in regulation. It was her 15th goal of the season and 12th during Sun Belt play.

The best chances for both squads came in the second 10-minute overtime frame. In the 101st minute, a cross found Monique Hundley from about eight yards out. She was unable to direct the ball on goal as it sailed wide of the left post.

Davis used her speed to beat two defenders down the right side in the middle of the 104th minute. She uncorked a shot that sailed just over the crossbar.

Davis, Kondikoff and Smith all took a team-high three shots on the night. Sarah Everett placed both of her shot attempts on goals off of free kicks.

Martin made six saves to give her 70 on the season. Her total is now the eighth most by a Bobcat in a season in program history as she passed Lauren Frazier (66; 2010) and Mandi Mawyer (67; 2008) on the evening.

The regular season concludes Sunday at home against Coastal Carolina with kickoff slated for 1 p.m. A win in the match would clinch the Sun Belt regular season championship while a tie or loss forces the Bobcats to wait and see the results of Little Rock's and the Chanticleer's rescheduled matches next week. A tie on Sunday would clinch at least the second seed in the conference tournament.

After Sunday's contest, the team will honor the contribution seniors Kelly Barbalias and Jamie Brown have made to the program the past four years.
