schedule is up and it's pretty nice. good mix of mid-majors and big-ballers w/ some winnable matches.

https://txstatebobcats.com/schedule.aspx?path=wvball

smu is an exhibition game, but they were 3rd in aac last year - tech swept them 1st rd nit in san marcos to end their season (then did same to us in 2nd)

think we only play 2 at the baylor tourney, but bay, lsu & marquette were all tourney teams last year. be nice to come out of that one 1-1.

jmu coming to our tourney was an ncaa tourney team

get utsa home/away - they were -.500 last year

rice was 3rd in cusa last year - we ended their season w/ a 3-0 sweep in the nit

@ texas is a sneaky match for us. horns play 3 teams that are likely top 10 in their 1st 4 games, us, then another likely top 10 in kentucky. i have some personal connections to the horns team and there is some unrest/drama on that squad w/ the main reason coming back next year. it's next to impossible to beat them in gregory, but that's an overlook game if i've ever seen one.

kentucky will likely be a top 10 team coming to strahan - that should be pretty badass. don't get a lot of top 10 teams through here.

the asu tourney is all beatable, sub-.500 teams and asu/gonzaga are good names at the very least.

Would have been nice to win at least one but it's an exhibition so no panic!

Chisum inks contract extension

Texas State University Director of Athletics Dr. Larry Teis announced recently that Head Volleyball Coach and Assistant Athletic Director Karen Chisum has signed a three-year contract extension.

The new deal for the longest-tenured Bobcat coach will keep her in San Marcos through the 2020 campaign.

"Coach Chisum has been at Texas State for four decades now, and she is the epitome of what it means to be a Bobcat. She is a wonderful asset for our athletics department, our university and to the San Marcos community," Teis said. "She is also a member of the T-Association and our Hall of Honor. We are so excited that she has decided to remain with our department for several more years."

The 2018 season will be the 39th as head coach for Chisum, who enters the year with an all-time record of 868-543-3. She leads the longest-tenured active coaching staff in all of NCAA volleyball (Divisions I-III). Associate head coach Tracy Smith is in her 17th year, while assistant coach Sean Huiet is in his 13th.

Chisum is the second active longest-tenured coach at one school across all three NCAA divisions. She is also the fourth-winningest female Division I coach in NCAA history. She is Division I's third-winningest active head coach, and she enters 2018 just 32 victories shy of becoming just the seventh coach in NCAA Division I history to reach the 900-win plateau.

marquette wins 3-0: 25-23, 25-17, 25-17

we were in it all the way in the 1st set, serving on their game point, but not so much the rest of the match.

didn't get to follow the livescoring today, but damn it looks like we're *this* close to being able to run w/ the good teams.

baylor wins 3-0: 25-21, 26-24, 25-17

baylor is ranked #16 and all 3 teams this weekend were ncaa tourney teams last year.
