even though vball isnt bad like football, i think me seeing them when i was in alaska long ago will be my only vball game ever. Unless the kid starts dating a player I guess in 18 years and I'm expected to make an appearance.

beat rice in 5 last night. nice job to come back in the 5th after a rough 3rd and 4th sets.

25-22, 25-23, 20-25, 16-25, 15-9

tough week ahead: @ #6 texas and #16 kentucky coming to strahan on sat

i was more optimistic about the match at texas before the season began. their middles are absolutely ruthless and their soph setter seems to have found her game after a shaky freshman campaign, while we haven't won a single match against a tournament team from last year. they are also coming off a loss @ wisky that cost them the #1 ranking, so they should be pretty focused.

kentucky started 0-3 and has won 3 straight. they play texas friday night, so hopefully it's a 5 set fight and we can take advantage.

match went pretty much how i expected - swept, w/ a 5pt margin in each. we've got the athletes, but man the mental mistakes and unforced errors killed us. so many serves out of bounds, several easy balls that hit the ground w/ 2 or 3 players looking at each other, multiple tips for kills from ut that should have been recognized and handled. but - like i said, the athletes are there: when they were focused and playing, the cats were in the fight. back row defense was impressive and i really liked the florida transfer hitting outside. don't think she set at all. #7 is legit too.

ut 3-0: 25-18, 25-19, 25-19

uk wins 3-1

22-25, 27-25, 25-20, 25-21

the service errors right after a point hurt us again. really need to cut down on the mental mistakes and stop giving teams free points. still - hell of an effort today. can't wait to get to conference play w/ this squad.

Huskey’s offensive onslaught sends TXST past Roadrunners

Junior registers 21 kills, Texas State completes season sweep with 3-0 win over UTSA

The Texas State volleyball team powered past UTSA 3-0 (25-22, 31-29, 25-22) Tuesday night inside Convocation Center.

The Bobcats (6-5) completed the season sweep over their rivals and have handed the Roadrunners (7-3) two of their three losses this season.

TXST was led by a 21-kill performance from junior Cheyenne Huskey. The total was the highest by a Sun Belt Conference player in a three-set match this season and the most by a Bobcat player in a three-set match since at least 2006 (Texas State's game-by-game statistics only go back through 2007). Huskey committed just five errors on 30 swings for a hitting percentage of .533.

Junior Amy Pflughaupt registered 10 kills and just one error on 30 swings (.300), while true freshman Jillian Slaughter added nine kills and one error on 15 swings (.533). True freshman Emily DeWalt distributed 41 assists, and junior Micah Dinwiddie added a match-high 10 digs.

Kenedi Rutherford paced the Roadrunners with 17 kills, while Hannah Lopez added 11. Amanda Gonzales and Mia Perales both dished out 22 assists, and Shelby Williams tallied 10 digs.

The Bobcats recorded a season-high hitting percentage of .356 and held the home team to just a .215 percentage. TXST also led in kills (50-47), assists (49-46), digs (41-39), and blocks (8-2). UTSA ended with the lead in service aces (5-3).

SET 1
Texas State jumped out to a 5-1 lead and never trailed en route to taking the opening period 25-22. The Roadrunners never let TXST get out to a lead of more than four points, however, until the maroon and gold took an 18-13 advantage. UTSA fought back to within one at 22-21, but the comeback attempt would stifle as the visitors would find three of the final four points.

SET 2
The Bobcats won the second set 31-29 in a frame that featured plenty of back-and-forth drama. Texas State initially plowed ahead 8-1 and looked to be well on its way to victory, but UTSA used an elongated 15-5 run to move on top 16-13. TXST scored the next three points to pull back level, and the two teams jockeyed for position the rest of the way. The Bobcats were able to fend off four set points from the Roadrunners before finally capturing the game on their third attempt.

SET 3
TXST shut the door on UTSA by winning the third 25-22. The visitors found a 10-4 advantage and never allowed the Roadrunners to move back into an even position. UTSA got within one on two occasions at 20-19 and 21-20. Texas State finished the night by winning four of the next six points, punctuated by one final kill from Huskey.

Texas State will continue its season-high six-match stretch away from home at the 2018 Sparky Classic Sept. 14-15 in Tempe, Ariz. The Bobcats will face Gonzaga, Northern Arizona and host Arizona State.

Texas State sweeps Arizona State for Sparky Classic title

DeWalt collects second MVP trophy, Bobcats win two tournaments in one year for first time since 1998

The Texas State volleyball team swept Arizona State 3-0 (25-22, 28-26, 25-17) Saturday night to win the 2018 Sparky Classic Presented by DoubleTree by Hilton Phoenix Tempe.

The Bobcats (9-5) dropped just one set all weekend to earn their second tournament championship of the non-conference season (Creeds & Crests Classic). This marks the first time since 1998 that the maroon and gold has captured two tournaments in the same year. The loss snapped a 15-match non-conference home winning streak for the Sun Devils (9-3) that dated back to 2014.

True freshman Janell Fitzgerald ripped off a personal-best 18 kills at a .500 hitting clip, while junior Cheyenne Huskey recorded 14 kills and just one error on 18 swings for a .722 hitting percentage. True freshman Emily DeWalt added 38 assists, and classmate Kayla Granado tallied a personal-best 10 digs.

DeWalt was named the MVP of the Sparky Classic, giving her a second tournament MVP honor this season (Creeds & Crests Classic. Huskey and Fitzgerald both earned spots on the all-tournament team.

Alyse Ford led ASU with 16 kills, while Nicole Peterson added 10. Shelbie Dobmeier added a double-double of 28 assists and 10 digs.

Texas State led in kills (48-39), hitting percentage (.312-.235), assists (44-38), aces (5-1), and blocks (8-5). Arizona State led in digs (39-34).

heading into sbc play at a pretty solid 9-5. little disappointed we didn't pick up a w at the baylor tourney (lsu sitting at 5-6 right now...), but all 5 losses were to good programs.

headed to louisiana this weekend:

ulm is 5-6 and has some pretty bad losses on their sheet

ull is 8-6 but has played a very weak schedule and doesn't have a good win to date. 1-11 sdsu and 5-6 montana state took them to 5.

#AllForTXST | #RiseAbove

i think that means we've had someone win at least one conf pow accolade every week so far this season.

edit...guess i could have waited for the txst tweet... and i missed the earlier one from the sbc as well.

@SunBelt

Congratulations to @TexasStateVball's Cheyenne Huskey on being named #SunBeltVB Offensive Player of the Week.

Huskey registered 56 kills and just 11 errors on 91 swings for a blistering .495 to lead the Bobcats to a 4-0 week.
