Bobcats lose 5-1.

Fraze pitched good enough to win but offense couldn't get going.

Troy's closer pitched the final 3.1 innings and didn't surrender a hit.

TXST heads to the losers bracket where they'll face the loser of Louisiana/Little Rock tomorrow at approximately 12:30pm tomorrow. That game is next.

Lightning has postponed the UL/LR game to tomorrow morning. Cajuns lead 8-7 in the bottom of the 4th. Game will resume at 830am. Bobcats will play the loser in the afternoon. This has to benefit us you would think.

#7 Little Rock scores 6 in the the 7th to take a 16-13 lead over #2 Louisiana going to the bottom of the 7th.

Crazy game. Both teams are using up a ton of pitching. Not to mention they probably didn't leave the ballpark until after 11pm last night and resumed this game at 8:30 this morning.
Bobcats likely playing around 2pm or so today against whoever loses this game.

19-16 Louisiana in the B8th.

This is now the highest scoring game in Sun Belt conference tournament history.

Took over 14.5 hours, but #2 Louisiana beats #7 Little Rock 19-16 in an absolutely insane game.

#5 Georgia Southern will take on #8 UTA next which will probably start around 11:50 in the tournament's first elimination game.

TXST will play Little Rock at the conclusion of that game. Little Rock just played a marathon and used up 8 arms, including many of their top bullpen arms. They also had to play Tuesday in the play-in round. Bobcats should have a decided pitching advantage going into the game, but Little Rock is a really fiery, scrappy team that can obviously hit if you look at the stats of today's game. We will still have to play well to advance.

Real quick preview on Little Rock:

As a team they ranked 7th in the Sun Belt with a .258 batting average.
They ranked 5th in team ERA at 4.61.

Throughout TXST's time in the Sun Belt, Little Rock has usually been a good hitting team with poor pitching. You can't tell from their game with Louisiana, but this has been their best collective pitching staff since we joined the league. At the same time, hitting took a bit of a step back this year for the Trojans.

Top hitter this year for Little Rock has been 2nd baseman Chase Coker. Coker is hitting .302 on the season.
RF Troy Alexander is the biggest power threat with 7 homers on the season to go along with his .285 average. He went 4/6 with a homer, a double, and 5 RBI vs. Louisiana.

My guess for starting pitching matchup is Connor Reich for TXST vs. Aaron Funk for LR. Funk is 2-0 on the year through 9 starts with a 3.61 ERA. He allows opponents to hit .274 and has 48 strikeouts to 23 walks on the season. The Trojans used 7 bullpen arms through their first two tournament games, including using 2 of their top arms in both games. Justin Garcia is the closer and most reliable reliever but pitched in both games and threw 42 pitches this morning. Their other primary reliever Donavin Buck also pitched in both games. I'm not sure if those guys will be available, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them given this is an elimination game that would end their season if they lose.

Texas State should be the favorites going into this game considering how much more pitching Little Rock has burned through so far in this tournament compared to Texas State. That being said, you may remember the Trojans took 2 of 3 off the Bobcats in San Marcos during the regular season. Game will likely start sometime around 3pm or 3:30pm depending on how fast the Georgia Southern/UTA goes and weather. More thunderstorms are expected this afternoon in Lafayette.

T1:
Not a good start as we gift LR a couple runs.

Reich hits Coker who moves to 2nd on a wild pitch, then advances to third on a groundout.
Alexander scores Coker on a single, then moves to 3rd on a Perez single. Alexander then scores on a double steal.

2-0 Little Rock. Middle 1st.

Still 2-1 through 4 innings.

We only have two hits off Funk. Won't matter how fatigued Little Rock's bullpen is if we can't get to them.

B5:
Huber and Paul lead off the inning with back-to-back singles.
Almendarez moves them over with a sac bunt. Almendarez was safe at first but called out.
Shuffield follows with a 2-RBI triple.

3-2 TXST.

Ortega follows with a pop out to first, then Sherley draws a walk.
Runners at the corners with Hubbard coming to bat with two outs and Little Rock is going to the bullpen. Ethan Daily, who threw 8 pitches this morning vs. Louisiana, enters.

LR just gifted us a run back. Sherley gets picked off first but nobody is covering 2nd. Shuffield scores from 3rd.

4-2 TXST and with a 2-0 count they intentionally walk Hubbard to put runners on 1st and 2nd for Newman.
Newman grounds out to 1st to end the inning.

4-2 Bobcats through 5 innings.

T6:
Reich walks Alexander then strikes out Perez and Reich will exit after 5.1 innings with a 2 run lead.

Braden Pearson on in relief.
Pearson did pitch last night but only threw four pitches.

Alexander advances to 3rd on an error on Ortega and scores on a Figueroa sac fly.
Pearson gets out of the inning with a strikeout after conceding another single.

4-3 TXST. Mid 6th.

B7:
Almendarez gets on from an E4 and takes 2nd on a ball in the dirt.
He advances to 3rd on a fly ball to RF from Shuffied then scores on a wild pitch ball four to Sherley to make it 5-3 bobcat.

Sherley then steals 2nd and Hubbard singles him home.

6-3 Bobcats.

Hubbard steals 2nd then yet another wild pitch moves him to 3rd. Little Rock going to the bullpen and bringing ex-bobcat Nick Perez in to pitch with a runner at 3rd and 2 outs.
Perez gets Newman to ground back out to him to end the inning.

6-3 Bobcats through 7. Pearson still out there.
