Post Series Thread - @ Arkansas State
We'll see how the bobcats respond to the meltdown this week in Austin this weekend in Jonesboro.

A-State sits in 11th right now in the 12 team Sun Belt with a record of 15-25 and a 6-15 conference record. They are coming off a huge upset series win over USA in Mobile though and usually play their best ball late in the season. The bobcats, on the other hand, have been an early season team the last couple seasons that struggles late. On top of that the red wolves have had the bobcats number through the years. In fact we've dropped all 4 series against A-State since joining the league, and they are usually in the bottom half of the league.

Reich is slated to start Friday.
Fraze on Saturday.
TBA on Sunday. Lewis/Leigh/Engle have all been struggling lately and our Sunday and mid-week results reflect that.

I'd like to believe that we're capable of winning this series (at least 2 games).

But honestly, I'm not especially optimistic. We seem to be a "one step forward, two steps back" program.

Preparing for the worst, hoping for the best . . . it's just what Bobcats do.

7:05 first pitch.

1 - Shuffield - LF
2 - Ortega - 2b
3 - Sherley - SS
4 - Hubbard - 3b
5 - Paul - RF
6 - Scheible - CF
7 - Faison - DH
8 - Newman - 1b
9 - Huber - C
SP - Reich

Like seeing the true freshman Wesley Faison get the start at DH.

Bobcats strike first on a Hubbard single that scores Ortega for a 1-0 lead.

We strand runners on 2nd and 3rd however.

B 5th, Red Wolves tie it up on a Bobcat error, our 55th of the year. 5th highest in the conference.

Sigh....

B5:
Leadoff bunt single for A-State. Next batter attempts to sac bunt and we hit him in the head on an 0-2 count. Then they try to sac bunt again and we field it and throw it into the 3rd base dugout to make it 1-1. Very next pitch is wild and scores another 2-1. A-State has scored two runs so far this inning by bunting every batter and we still haven't recorded an out.

Now 3-1, no one out, Wolves still taking their hacks . .

Wolves with runners at 2nd and 3rd, one out.

Sac Fly makes it 4-1

I should start taking a "shot" every time the Wolves score . . . at least I'd be numb to our crappy play.

Yup. It wasn't the B 9th Vs TX, but it wasn't pretty either.

Hit a guy trying to sac bunt on an 0-2 count.
Threw a fielded bunt into the dugout.
Two walks.
Two wild pitches.

Unacceptable amount of unforced errors that inning.
Way too late in the season to play that sloppy with one of our top two arms on the mound.

Regressing as the season progresses has now officially become a trend considering we did it last year also. At least last year we could blame injuries. No excuses this year.
