not sure it's quite that simple. ulala was 45-6 and the sbc champ last year, and they didn't get a regional. only big boys (girls?) hosted last year: ... ll/d1/2017

ahead of us in the polls right now are: oklahoma, tamu and baylor
all 3 hosted last year

2 years ago, ulala and jmu both hosted, so the ncaa isn't averse to smaller programs hosting, but they were also ranked 14 and 7, respectively. ... ll/d1/2016

Something that certainly did not help our odds for hosting a regional this year can be chalked up to 3 notable games: we lost to ASU, Boston College and Troy Game1 all because we gave up unearned go ahead error runs in the last inning (2 of those games were walk offs on errors).

Rewind: We sweep Troy like we should have and at least won (not swept) the ULL series while winning the sbc tournament and I think we have a very very strong case for being a bubble host. While pitching has been really solid this season and hitting has improved quite a bit as opposed to last season the defensive field has significantly struggled behind Rupp on the mound. If we're 43-6 like we certainly could be because of the aforementioned blown games above and we were to have won the SBC tournament yeah I think we would be hosting a regional. Even if we make it out of a regional this year which I don't actually think will actually happen I do not think we have the gloves to get out of a Super Regional

Dropping the series to Troy this weekend probably eliminated any hope to host.

Despite losing 2 of the last 6 due to unearned runs entirely it was nice and convenient to have Louisiana pickup 2 losses themselves on the back stretch to Ga Southern and UTA. First outright championship in the sbc!!

would say the Troy series cost us a 'lock' on at large tournament bid though i would still say we are a likely at-large bid if we just make the conf finals. but i agree if troy and uta were both swept and we won the conf tournament i think we could have been looking at a hosting bubble though a lot of things would have to go our way. sprinkle in that utah, bc, asu and first ut game that could have gone either way if we fielded well and no telling where things would be right now

To put things into perspective, of the top 50 college softball pitchers (in terms of ERA) the defense behind Rupp has given up the 3rd most unearned runs only behind irrelevant Quinnipiac and Maine pitchers where it is probably too cold to make plays. Talk about the adversity that Rupp has overcome and will continue to have to deal with... ... ual/276/p1
