Post Game Thread - @ Texas - ESPN3
With the first half of the season in the books, say goodbye to mid-week home games. Last Wednesday's win over UTRGV was the last mid-week game of the season scheduled in San Marcos and we'll be on the road every Tuesday from now until the end of the season.

The first two mid-week games are back-to-back Tuesday visits to Austin to face the Texas Longhorns. The Bobcats currently hold a 2-game winning streak over the Longhorns, including a 1-0 record against Texas this year from a 11-10 extra innings win in San Marcos on March 21st.

If you're in the area you know it's been raining all day. The rain is forecasted to cease right around first pitch. We shall see if they are able to complete today's game as scheduled. Game will be on ESPN3, not sure if it's on LHN or not.

Schedule/Probable Pitching Matchup:
Date: Tuesday, April 11
Time: 6:30 pm
#32 RHP Cam Baird (1-2, 4.21 ERA) vs. #32 LHP Nick Kennedy (4-0, 2.63 ERA)

Texas Outlook:
Texas has been pretty up and down this season, but have settled in with a decent overall record of 22-13 and a very solid RPI of 34. Their RPI jumped up about 30 spots after taking 2 of 3 this weekend in Austin vs. #16 Oklahoma. They are 6-6 currently in the big 12, hampered by a disastrous 1-2 weekend at Kansas two weekends ago. They are 18-7 at home this year, 8-1 in mid-week games (with their only mid-week loss being to TXST), and 6-0 in mid-week home games on the season.

Texas State Notes:
- Cam Baird will be making his 7th start of the season for the Bobcats and is coming off his best performance of the season last Tuesday against Prairie View A&M. Baird picked up his first win against the Panthers, giving up 5 hits and 1 run on 7 Ks and 2 walks in 8 full innings pitched. Baird is 1-2 on the season and has the best ERA of the Bobcats' 4-man rotation at 4.21. He's pitched 25.2 innings on the year, allowing 12 earned runs while striking out 25 and walking 9. He's allowing a very high opponents' batting average however at .317. Baird struggled early in the season but is looking better and better each week it seems. Tonight will be a big game in his progression, and a quality start may get Harrington and Fikac considering putting Baird in the weekend rotation at some point soon.
- A relief arm to watch is Brayden Theriot. Theriot is starting to get a lot of appearances in the back end of the bullpen and is looking like a possible set-up guy to get the ball to Walden in the 9th. That being said, Walden is beginning to struggle now after a good start to the season and Theriot may get some save opportunities. The sophomore Theriot has been routinely hitting 94 with his fastball and has had multiple solid outings lately.
- 2nd baseman Jonathan Ortega did not Sunday for the first time in his entire Bobcat career. He started every single game in 2016 and had started every game in 2017 prior to Sunday. Ortega did pinch hit in the 9th where he was intentionally walked. After the walk he was immediately pinch ran for. Ortega may have an injury that kept him out on Sunday. It will be interesting to find out if Ortega will start tonight vs. Texas. Obviously not having him in the lineup is a huge detriment to the offense (and defense).

Texas Starting Pitching:
Sophomore Nick Kennedy will be making his 5th start of the season for the Longhorns and currently sports a 4-0 record and a solid 2.63 ERA. Kennedy and Baird have already faced off once this year as Baird beat Kennedy in San Marcos in March. Kennedy pitched to a no decision against the Bobcats that night, allowing 8 hits and 5 runs (4 earned) on 5 strikeouts and no walks over 5+ innings. Kennedy hasn't made a start since a win at Whataburger Field over A&M-Corpus Christi on March 28th. His only appearance since then came this past Saturday in relief against Oklahoma. Kennedy did not record an out and only threw 11 pitches, walking 2 batters.

Texas Hitting:
1st baseman Kacy Clemens is leading the team in most offensive categories (runs, hits, RBI, doubles, homers, slugging %, walks). He's hitting .322 on the season with 11 doubles and 6 homers. Catcher Michael McCann leads the team with a .361 batting average, but the horns split their time behind the plate pretty evenly with McCann and the .194 hitting incumbent starter Michael Cantu (much to the dismay of Longhorn fans). McCann started the last game vs. TXST. LF Tate Shaw missed the first few weeks of the season but is hitting .296 on the season through 19 starts.

According to the Austin paper, it will be LHN if it's played.

Ugh. So we'll essentially have a 4-game series since the ULM series starts on Thursday. And with more weather expected on Friday and Saturday I wouldn't be surprised to see that series condensed down and completed earlier than Saturday.

Could be a lot of baseball played in the next 3 days.

We desperately need to get some momentum back this week after back-to-back disappointing weekends in Sun Belt play. We're still in the thick of things at 7-5, but 2-4 over the last two weekends looks ugly.

Beating UT tomorrow would be a nice way to build some confidence going into that series.

I was just about to say I haven't seen any release from either athletic dept. yet and it's less than an hour to scheduled first pitch.

Really disappointing start from Baird. He's pulled with the bases loaded and two outs in the 3rd. He walked 6 in 2.2 innings.

4-0 Texas.

Pagano in. Who's been struggling badly lately.

And a 4-pitch walk for Pagano makes it 5-0.

A Hubbard single scores Hoffman to make it 5-1 in the top of the 4th.

Hoffman, who singled to start the inning, is 3rd in the country in hits with 55.

2-run homer in the 5th makes it 7-2 Texas through 5.
