Post Game Thread - Vs. Rice
Baseball is back at it Wednesday night at Bobcat Ballpark vs. Rice in a 6:05 first pitch.

Probable Pitching Matchup:
RHP Cam Baird (0-2, 7.71 ERA) vs TBA

Rice outlook:
Rice has been uncharacteristically bad so far this year with a record of just 6-12. They started the season in Austin, splitting a 4-game series with the Longhorns 2-2. They lost their home opener in a mid-week game vs. Dallas Baptist then lost 2 of 3 at home to Southeastern Louisiana. They lost 13-5 to #1 TCU in Fort Worth then lost another disappointing weekend series at home to Pepperdine losing 2 of 3 games. Last week they lost 10-4 in Beaumont to Lamar before splitting the Stanford Series last weekend and losing to Sam Houston last night.

Rice is 0-4 on the season in mid-week games and the Bobcats are 0-3. Somebody will get their first mid-week win tonight.

Starting Pitching:
Cam Baird will make his 3rd start of the season after falling out of the rotation last week in favor of Brandon Courville. Courville struggled against UTSA and Baird is back in the mid-week (#4) slot. Both of Baird's first two starts were in mid-week games as well. He was the losing pitcher in both games vs. Baylor and Sam Houston State. He has a 7.71 ERA on the season in 4.2 innings pitched allowing opponents to bat a whopping .458 (2nd highest opponents BA on the team behind Brandon Lewis). He's walked 2 and struck out 7. Baird has yet to get out of the 3rd inning this season.

Rice hasn't announced their starting pitcher yet as they've been a busy ballclub lately. They played a 4-game series vs. Stanford on Thursday through Saturday and played Sam Houston State last night in Houston. I'm guessing they will likely be pitching by committee tonight with a bunch of relievers. They've had 5 guys start games this season and 4 of them started vs. Stanford and 1 last night vs. Sam. Their options are either pitch by committee with relievers or throw their ace against us instead of this Friday. Much more likely we get the former, which plays into our favor.

Other players to watch for Rice:
Closer Glenn Otto still has a 0.00 ERA through 5 appearances with 2 saves.
Reliever Addison Moss has a 2.45 ERA in 4 appearances.
Catcher Dominic Dicaprio leads the team with a .444 average.
RF Charlie Warren has the most hits on the team with 26 and bats .338.
SS Ford Proctor is hitting .328.

First pitch is at 6:05 and the game will be televised locally on the Spectrum Sports Channel for those that have Spectrum (TWC).

Either the cats are improving or it's going to be a long year for Rice. Cats win 13-4.

Rice was really bad. I think they used 11 pitchers, only 3 of them could throw strikes.

It was good to see our guys hitting the ball hard. Rice had pitchers who threw the ball pretty hard 90-92. The past few seasons our guys would have been over matched by 90-92mph fastballs, this year it looks like most of our guys have quick enough hands.

If we can find some pitching we may be able to win a few games during conference play.

This was the most unexciting a victory over Rice that a person could witness. Very un-entertaining and like X stated, uncharacteristic of a Rice baseball team.

Lets take 2 out of 3 this weekend.

Yes, Rice is kinda bad this year. They're 6-13 right now. Even Kendall Rogers said something about their loss tonight on his twitter feed.

This was their 6th game this week compared to our 4th. They had no pitching left. Nice win but it would have been a bad loss if we didn't win.

On to the defending national champs this weekend. Easily the biggest series of the young season so far.

A little bit of both.

Both teams wanted to cycle through a lot of arms to not wear any of them out too much with only a day's rest before their weekend matchups.

Ty did note in the postgame he didn't want to keep any reliever out there longer than an inning, which he didn't. Bullpen should be in good shape heading into Coastal. Walden threw 34 pitches in the 9th. That was probably about twice as many as Ty was hoping for. Other than that things worked out well for us.

If we can take 1 of the 3 from Coastal, I'll consider it a success . . .

2 of 3, a fortunate fluke . . .

3 of 3, have the guys drug tested . .. . (or keep giving 'em more of whatever they're taking).

They haven't been all that great this year. We will see.
