Post Game Thread - Vs. Sam Houston State
Baseball returns to San Marcos after returning from a trip to Stillwater this past weekend to face old rival Sam Houston State Tuesday at 6pm at Bobcat Ballpark.

Probable Pitching Matchup:
RHP Cam Baird (0-1, 13.50 ERA) vs. RHP Dakota Mills (0-1, 3.86 ERA)

Bearkats Outlook:
Sam Houston State was ranked 18th in the country at this time last week, but after a 1-2 weekend vs. Louisiana they've dropped out of the rankings. They are still expected to be a very good club this year coming off a 42-22 season a year ago which included a Southland regular season championship, a Southland Tournament championship, and a regional appearance. They were knocked out in the Lafayette regional by eventual CWS runner-up Arizona.

They are 3-4 so far this year. They took 2 of 3 vs. Nevada to start the season, dropped their mid-week game to Texas last week, then dropped 2 of 3 to Louisiana last weekend. Tonight's game will be their first road game of the season as all previous 7 games were in Huntsville.

Starting Pitching:
Cam Baird will make his 2nd start of the young season tonight for the Bobcats after taking a loss against Baylor on Wednesday last week. Baird only lasted 2 innings vs. the Bears. He gave up 3 earned runs on 6 hits with 1 walk and 2 strikeouts. He only threw 45 pitches vs. Baylor so, if nothing else, he should be fresh.

Dakota Mills will make his 2nd start for SHSU after losing to Texas last week. Mills threw 4.2 innings giving up 2 earned runs on 3 hits with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. Texas hit just .176 against Mills in that game. Mills retired the first 8 longhorn batters in that game.

Bearkats hitting:
SHSU has 2 guys with more than 8 ABs hitting above .300. Catcher Robie Rojas is leading the team with a .348 batting average. He has 8 hits on 23 ABs with 3 doubles and 3 RBI. RF/1B Hunter Hearn is hitting .313 through 16 ABs with 2 doubles and 2 RBI. Through 7 games he has only played in 5 and started 4 however. He is not in the everyday lineup for the Bearkats. Last year's star offensive player, CF Bryce Johnson, is hitting .269 so far on the season but is still possibly the most dangerous guy in the lineup. Johnson has played the Bobcats twice in his career and is hitting .714 against us.

Bobcats:
- Tonight's game will mark the first of 13 straight in Bobcat Ballpark for Texas State.
- Texas State is currently 7th in the country in doubles with 22.
- Derek Scheible is 3rd in the country with 6 doubles.
- This will be the 99th meeting between TXST and SHSU. TXST holds a slim 51-47 lead in the series.
- TXST is 30th in the nation in average attendance at 1,745 per game.

With SHSU being such a big rival, all things are out the window in terms of records and streaks. I think Baird and Mills will get into a pitching battle early on (Baird is a lot better than the Baylor game showcased), but our bats will start bleeding Mills in 5th/6th or so.

This game will come down to the bullpen IMHO.

As expected we lose to SHSU. For anyone that casually follows the programs this is embarrassing. Harrington needs to go. If he can't out recruit SHSU then hit the door. We have girls in bikinis 1 block from the stadium 9 months a year SHSU has the walls.

Fire Harrington! A loss to UTSA is coming soon.

Issues remain the same.

Starter can't get out of the 3rd. Defense commits 3 errors.

Hopefully we get some injured guys back soon.

It's not just the errors. It's the lack of fundamental baseball. A serious problem again tonight. We need Shirley and Newman back real soon.

I did notice that Sam had 10 players that came from juco or other DI programs.

I saw a very unusual tweet tonight from deadspin. Said five Spiders were suspended for playing fantasy football.

I suppose they should have played football at Baylor

Would've liked to have been there tonight, but work beckoned.

I'm pretty disturbed by the pattern we are seeing with fielding errors & poor starting pitching. I can understand pitching issues, but even the most average, inexperienced college player should be a reliable fielder. That is a bad combo with a coach that is known for less-than-stellar in game coaching decisions. If this continues, I probably won't bother going to many games.

Sherley is set to begin practicing in a week or two.

Harrington said last game that he would be ready to go soon, but he wouldn't be "game ready" until late this month. We really really need him back to solidify the ground game.

Our starting pitching is struuuuuuuuuuuugling.

Baird should easily be able to last 5-7 innings, and last night we saw a small amount of the promise he holds (5K's in 2.2 innings).

Maybe it's the defense behind them that is worrying them or adjusting to the starting role, but we can't keept getting into track meets with other teams.

Saying starting pitching is struggling is like saying Lena Dunham just needs a little makeup. I'd say it's fucking brutal.

Here's a few quick numbers thru 9 games on our starters -

ERA = 12.6
WHIP = 2.8
Batting avg against = .390
No starter has gone 5+ innings

That is all
