Post Re: Series Thread - @ UT-Arlington
Sounds like we will see Hennigan get the start today. I would assume he wouldn't be asked to start a game in the tournament until Friday at the earliest.

Our game may be the lynchpin to determine the seedings. If TXST beats UTA Troy will be the 4 seed, TXST will be the 5 seed (meaning we would face Troy in game 1 of the tourney), Georgia Southern will be the 6 seed, and UTA will be the 7 seed. If we lose to UTA we will be the 6 or 7 seed and would face likely ULL or Little Rock in the opener, possibly even USA. Considering our history with ULL and USA (and even Little Rock this season) a win today would put us in much better positioning for game 1 of the tournament. Today's game is a very meaningful game.

Missed the first few innings.
Top 1st: Ortega leads off with a double and is eventually brought in with Hill sac fly.
Top 2nd: Scheible starts with a single and is brought in by an Ortega triple to make it 2-0.
Top 3rd: Hill singles, Paul singles, Scheible with an RBI double followed by a Sherley 2-RBI single makes it 5-0 Cats.

UTA on pitcher #3 already. Hennigan just stranded a guy on 3rd in the bottom of the 3rd to make it 5-0 TXST after 3 innings.

First final of the day:
Georgia Southern takes the rubber match with Georgia State 5-1.
Georgia State's season is over as they did not qualify for the conference tournament.

Georgia Southern jumps into 5th for the moment with the win. Things pretty simple for TXST now. Win this game and we will be the 5 seed, lose and we will be the 7 seed. Need to hold on to this one to avoid ULL or USA in the first round.

5-0 through 4 1/2.

Hennigan's no-hitter is broken up by the leadoff guy in the bottom of the 5th.
Double play quickly erases the runner though. 2 outs, nobody on.
Hennigan walks his 4th, then strikes out his 6th to end the inning.
5-0 through 5.

Leadoff double for Derek Scheible to lead off the 6th. Scheible having a great series. That's his 4th double so far of the series and 2nd today.

Sherley up to bat with a runner at 2nd and nobody out. 6-3 putout retires Sherley for the 1st out.

That brings up catcher Felipe Rodriguez. Scheible steals 3rd to put a runner at 3rd with 1 out. RBI single from Rodriguez makes it 6-0 Bobcats. Runner at 1st and one out for the leadoff man, Ortega.

Ortega lines out to 2nd and Rodriguez is doubled off 1st to end the top of the 6th.

Bobcats add an insurance run though and its 6-0 going to the bottom half of the frame.

Hennigan's day is done after 5 innings. Hennigans line: 5 IP, 1 hit, 0 runs, 4 BB, 6 Ks on 76 pitches. Great start for Hennigan.

Brandon Lewis (4.13 ERA) takes over on the mound.

Catcher Dylan Schneider, only playing due to an earlier injury to the UTA catcher, grounds out to Sherley at SS in just his 2nd AB of the season. Schneider is usually a relief pitcher for the Mavs.

Rohrbraugh flies out to RF for the 2nd out.

DH Colton Turner bats now. He is 0 for 2 on the day. Turner lines out to Sherley at SS.

1-2-3 for Lewis. 6-0 Cats through 6.

UTA goes back to the pen for their 4th pitcher of the day. Matt Michalski takes over for UTA to start the 7th. Michalski is 1-4 with a 7.48 ERA.

3B Mickey Scott leads off the 7th for the Bobcats. He is 1 for 3 on the day with a single. He is now 2 for 4 as he leads off with a single through the left side.

1B Tanner Hill now bats with a runner on 1st and nobody out. Hill flies out to CF for the first out.

LF Granger Studdard now bats. Studdard is 0 for 2 with a walk today. Studdard grounds out to 1B unassisted. Scott is able to advance to 2nd.

Runner at 2nd and 2 outs for RF Dylan Paul. Paul is 1 for 3 with a run scored today. Scott steals 3rd, made easier by a pitch in the dirt. Bobcats being a bit more aggressive on the bases this series. Paul lines out to McLemore at 2nd base to strand Scott at 3rd.

At stretch time it's still 6-0 Bobcats.

2nd baseman Darien McLemore leads off the bottom of the 7th for UTA in Lewis's 2nd inning of work. Scheible makes a great sliding catch in CF to rob McLemore of a leadoff hit. One out in the inning.

RF Farrell flies out to RF on the first pitch of the AB for 2 outs.

1B Littrel then grounds out to SS on the 2nd pitch of his AB for the 3rd out.

Quick 1-2-3 inning for Lewis in the 7th. Through 7 its still 6-0 TXST.

Troy beats South Alabama to ruin USA's conference championship. USA now has to hope for a ULM win over ULL to take the championship. ULL wins it with a win. Currently ULL leads ULM in the bottom of the 3rd.

Troy now has the 4-seed in the tournament and will be TXST's first round opponent if we hold on to win. If we blow this game we will face either USA or ULL, depending on the outcome of the ULL/ULM game today.

UTA back to the pen for the 8th. They are obviously just trying to conserve arms at this point. Daniel James takes over. He has a 4.33 ERA.

DH Cory Geisler leads off and is thrown out at 2nd trying to take an extra base on a throwing error by UTA's 3rd baseman. 1 out.

Scheible fouls out to 1B for the 2nd out.

Sherley flies out to RF for the 3rd and final out.

6-0 Cats still heading to the bottom of the 8th.

Jackson Morris will lead-off the 8th for UTA pinch-hitting for SS Josh Minjarez. Morris is hitting .071 on the season. Despite the low BA he leads off with a double to right-center to put a runner at 2nd with no outs for leadoff man Matt Mclean. That was UTA's 2nd hit of the day.

McLean is 0 for 0 with 3 walks today. Wild pitch moves Morris to 3rd. Lewis strikes McLean out for the 1st out of the inning.

3b RJ Williams now bats for UTA. He is 0 for 2 with a walk and 2 strikeouts today. Williams singles up the middle to put UTA on the board. 6-1 Cats now with a runner on 1st and 1 out.

C Dylan Schneider now bats for UTA looking for his first hit of the season in just his 3 AB of the year. He doesn't get it, but he does get his 1st walk of the season. 2 on and 1 out for 3B Rohrbraugh.

Rohrbraugh is 0 for 3 on the day. 6-4-3 Double play ends the threat for TXST in the bottom of the 8th.

6-1 TXST heading to the 9th inning.

Another change on the mound for UTA as they bring in freshman Ryan Leeuwen to take over. He has a 3.18 ERA.

3B Williams moves to SS and Ryan Hollie takes over at 3rd to take the spot for the pinch-hitter in the 8th.'

Bobcats catcher Felipe Rodriguez grounds out to 2nd for the first out.

Ortega, who is 2 for 4 with a double and a triple with an RBI and a run scored, now bats with 1 out and nobody on. Ortega lines out to 2nd for the 2nd out of the inning.

3b Mickey Scott, who has 2 hits on the day and has had a great series, now bats. Scott flies out to CF.

6-1 TXST going to the bottom of the 9th.

Bobcats closer, Mazzoccolli, in to try and close this one out. This is NOT a save situation. Maz, who has already set the TXST single-season saves record this year, will face the 5-6-7 part of UTA's order.

DH Colton Turner will start things off. He flies out to RF on one pitch for the 1st out.

2b Darien McLemore will now bat. If you follow the program closely you probably know McLemore as he's had a great 4-year career at UTA. McLemore goes out with a bang and hits a 1-out double to put a runner at 2nd and 1 out.

RF Cody Farrell now bats. He is 0 for 3 with a strikeout today. Farrell singles to LF to put runners on the corners with 1 out for 1B Jerame Littrell.

Littrell is 1 for 3 with a single today. Littrell singles to score McLemore. 6-2 now.

Runners on 1st and 2nd for 3B Christian Hollie. This is his first AB of the day. Hollie pops up to 2nd for the 2nd out.

CF Matt McLean now bats with 2 on and 2 out. He's 0 for 1 with 3 walks and a strikeout. McLean flies out to CF to end it.

TXST takes the game and the series. The final is Texas State 6, UTA 2.

Post Re: Series Thread - @ UT-Arlington
Some significance to today's win.

Bobcats have clinched the #5 seed in next week's conference tournament, they will face the #4 seed Troy. A loss and we'd have dropped to the 7 seed and would have to play USA in first round, plus that side of the bracket is probably a tad tougher.
TXST now guarantees itself a winning season, may not sound like a big deal but after last year's abominable 24-32-1 season I'll take it.
This was TXST's 30th win of the season.

Hennigan gets the win today. No save. Bobcats 6 runs were on 11 hits. UTAs 2 runs were on 6 hits. Both teams committed 1 error apiece. UTA will be the #7 seed in the tournament, and will likely face South Alabama in the first round as ULL is up 4 runs late on ULM right now.

if the ULL/ULM score hold and ULL wins:
ULL will be the conference champion and will be the #1 seed in the tournament.
South Alabama, losers of their last 2 games to blow the championship, will be the 2 seed if that score holds.
Little Rock is the 3 seed.
Troy is the 4 seed.
Texas State is the 5 seed.
Georgia Southern is the 6 seed.
UTA is the 7 seed.
Arkansas State is the 8 seed.
Georgia State, ULM, and App State will NOT be invited.

ULL, Troy, TXST, Arkansas State will be on one side of the bracket.
USA, Little Rock, Georgia Southern, and UTA on the other.

Winner of each bracket plays 1 game for the tournament championship and automatic berth to NCAA tournament.

First round matchups:
#1 ULL vs. #8 stAte
#2 USA vs. #7 UTA
#3 Little Rock vs. #6 GS
#4 Troy vs. #5 TXST

If ULM were to come back and beat ULL (unlikely) just flip ULL and USA in all above scenarios.

Bobcats will play at 4pm on Wednesday vs. Troy in the 3rd game on Wednesday. More to come.
