Post Series Thread - Vs. Georgia State
This weekend marks the final home games of the regular season for 2016 as Georgia State comes to San Marcos for a 3-game set starting Friday night. After this weekend the Bobcats will go on a 7-game road trip to finish off the regular season. Senior day will be Saturday instead of Sunday (I'm assuming because Sunday's game is earlier than usual at 11am).

Barring an epic collapse down the stretch, the Bobcats will have at least a couple more games at Bobcat Ballpark as the Sun Belt Conference Tournament will be held in San Marcos later this month.

Game Info: Texas State vs. Georgia State
Site: Bobcat Ballpark – San Marcos, Texas
Date: Friday, May 6 – Sunday, May 8
Time: Friday – 6 p.m. | Saturday – 3 p.m. | Sunday – 11 a.m.

Probable Pitching Matchups:
Friday: RHP #21 Lucas Humpal (5-4, 3.04 ERA) vs. LHP #26 Wayne Wages (4-4, 5.19 ERA)
Saturday: LHP #34 Jonathan Hennigan (3-2, 3.54 ERA) vs. RHP #38 Marc-Andre Habeck (1-3, 4.18 ERA)
Sunday: TBA vs. RHP #28 Bryan White (1-3, 5.26 ERA)

Looks like a change to the weekend rotation this weekend as Hennigan is scheduled to start Saturday's game. Hennigan has pitched Sundays for the past two weeks and was throwing mid-week prior to that. Sunday listed as TBA. Hopefully nothing wrong with Geisler (who had been throwing on Saturday's for the past two weeks). Hallonquist looked good vs. utsa on Tuesday so I'd assume either Geisler or Hallonquist on Sunday.

This is a dangerous series as GSU is a bit of a desperate team. They currently sit in 8th place in the league at 8-13 and are fighting off Arkansas State (9-15), Appalachian State (8-16), and Louisiana-Monroe (7-14) for the final spot in the conference tournament (only the top 8 teams in the conference will be invited). TXST currently is tied for 4th with Troy at 11-10 in league play. We are essentially in 5th as Troy owns the tiebreaker after taking 2 of 3 from us last weekend.

We're also 16-13 at home, 7-8 on the road . . . not a huge difference between the two, but I'll take whatever advantage we can before we finish with those 7 on the road . . .

We've also played like crap over the course of the last 25 or so . . . It would be nice to start building a little MO heading into a Tournament that we'll host . . .

Go Cats . .. Give 'em Hell . . .

Pretty apparent pattern here when looking at our conference series' so far this year. Our schedule has been really lopsided with all our difficult series' coming in the middle of the season. The beginning and end are much easier to navigate.

Here is a chronological listing of our conference series' with records and current standing of opponent:

11th place ULM: 3-0
10th place App: 3-0
1st place USA: 0-3
6th place GS: 3-0
3rd place LR: 0-3
2nd place ULL: 1-2
4th place Troy: 1-2

We started against the two worst teams in the league and started 6-0, our last 5 series have all been against the top half of the league though (and we went 5-10 in that stretch).

So far we are 2-10 against the top 4 teams in the league and 9-0 against teams ranked 6th through 11th.

Things get a little more favorable now with 8th place GSU this weekend, then 9th place stAte and 7th place UTA for our last 3 series. We have to start winning some games now and see if we can't get hot in the tournament.

Humpal gets into some trouble in the top of the 8th, allowing one to score after an error and two hits.

Humpal sits after 7 IP, he gave up 1 ER and struck out 6 with no walks.

Mazzoccoli comes in with 2 on and no outs and strikes out the side.

6-2 Cats heading to the bottom of the 8th.

Bobcats take game 1 of the series 6-2. Game 2 is tomorrow at 3,

Mazzoccoli ties the single season saves record with his 11th of the season. Pretty good for a team that doesn't have a "defined closer"

Good complete game for the Cats. Fine pitching, the errors didn't cost us the game and best of all was the timely hitting with men in scoring position.
Hope the team plays like this the rest of the season.

Hennigan done after 5. Hodson in for the 6th. A bit early for him as he's usually a setup guy for Mazzoccoli.

Still 5-1.
