Just saw that.

yea, the Angels designated him for assignment. This removed him from their 40 man roster. This is never a good sign for a AAA player. Hope he has better luck with the Rangers, but he now Beltran is in front him.

Here's where our guys are at the start of the season. I won't be doing any stats for awhile.

A
Grist - Milwaukee - Wisconsin Timber Rattlers - Appleton, WI

A Advanced
Finnegan - A's - Stockton (CA) Ports

AA
Hart - O's - Bowie Baysox, - Baltimore, MD

Turner - Toronto - Lansing (MI) Lugnuts

Williams - Washington - Harrisburg (PA) Senators

Pearson - ChiCubs - Tennessee (Knoxville) Smokies

McVaney - Detroit - Erie (PA) Seawolves *

Head - Cleveland - Akron (OH) Rubber Ducks

AAA
Martinson - Washington - Syracuse (NY) Chiefs

Kyle Kubitza - Angels - Salt Lake Bees

Thomas Field - Tigers - Toledo (OH) Mud Hens

Majors
Paul Goldschmidt - DBacks

Carson Smith - Boston

Ballew released. Mattlage no longer on any roster.

Update: Players to watch

McVaney: Despite an underwhelming minors BA AVG (for an outfielder) he recently is back in AAA mostly due to an impressive SLG% and OB%. I think they are starting to see him as more than just an athlete but a true baseball player too.

Mattlage and Martinson: Despite solid gloves they'll need more than a .200 BA (probably upwards of .250) to get out of the minor league ranks (even at SS) and that doesn't look promising right now

Hart, Grist and Head: All look to have a good chance to make AAA after last 30+ innings of
work at/around/under a 2 ERA

Beltre just signed a new 2-year deal with the Rangers but he's 37. Kubitza won't be fighting him for playing time - he'll be fighting with one of MiLB's top prospects - Joey Gallo. Although the Rangers might be looking to deal Gallo at the trade deadline for another reliever, in which case Kubitza makes a nice backfill...especially since the Rangers got him for cash.

Kubitza should be happy to be out of the Angels organization. It is one of the worst run MLB front offices.

The Angels have the worst farm system in baseball...and a long history of not developing their young players well. Just in the past few years I can think of Napoli, Trumbo, Aybar, and Bobby Wilson that starting playing 10x better as soon as they left the Angels organization.

Assuming we don't find a way to deal Profar (please no), him and Alberto would also be in the mix of people blocking Kubi.

Catmom, I think you're missing:

Class A Advanced:
Garrett Mattlage - Tigers - Lakeland (FL) Flying Tigers
5 games, 11 ABs, .000 average

He's also played 4 games at AA Erie this year. .167 average on 12 ABs.

Man, I'm slipping. I'll correct that. However, Mattlage was not on any roster the first 2 times I did this so I just left him out.

Wow. Good for Hart.

Sounds like they have quite a few injuries so his stay could be short lived. Hopefully he makes the most out of his appearances and can maybe stick around. Certainly a huge opportunity for him.
