Getting some love is nice but Georgia State is still the clear favorite

Yep they have wins over Georgia, Alabama, and ETSU already.

Our best win so far is probably over 2-6 UTSA.

Still, great seeing us on Katz's early projections.

I do think at this point I'd have us top 4 in the league based on what I've seen with Georgia State, Georgia Southern, and Louisiana. Good start for a team picked to finish 8th in the preseason.

Based on how everything has played out, we are the clear #1 team in this conference. GAST lost to Montana and Liberty, and those games weren't even close. A win over a struggling Georgia team and an Alabama team that overlooked them at home weren't that impressive.

Granted, we've had a cupcake schedule, but we've won convincingly against teams we should have won and got "quality" wins over teams that we could have easily lost to. Drake is the only game that played out like it should have given their size up front and our early season jitters.

Having said that, I see us more as a 14-15 seed at this point than a 13.....that's higher praise this early than what I was expecting.

Montana is arguably better than anyone we've played so far. And the only team we've played that would even be in the discussion as maybe on their level is Drake.

I've seen GSU play a couple times now, they're for real, as usual. The thing with a Ron Hunter led team though is they usually aren't real consistent. They will win some games you don't think they can and lose some they have no business losing (I don't think Hunter has the ability Kaspar has of getting a team to find a way to overcome a 1/17 shooting night from 3 and win). But they have a really talented roster.

I'm as optimistic as anyone about our 8-1 start, but it's hard to ignore our schedule at this point. It's really really weak and it's hard to even compare us to a team like GSU that has played a tremendously more difficult schedule up to this point. I do know we're a much better team now than we were a year ago though.

We'll find out soon enough who the better team is . We have them twice in January. Once in San Marcos and once in Atlanta. Could be huge games.
