Post Game Thread - @ Drake
After getting off to a 2-0 start with 2 wins at home, Texas State hits the road for the first time for a matchup at Drake Saturday afternoon in Des Moines.

The Bobcats are off to their first 2-0 start since the 2014-2015 season and are looking for their first 3-0 start since the 2011-2012 season. TXST beat Air Force in their opener before drubbing Howard-Simmons on Tuesday.

Nijal Pearson is leading the way offensively so far as expected with 15 PPG. Eric Terry is 2nd on the team so far in scoring with 12 PPG after a team-high effort vs. Hardin-Simmons. New PG Jaylen Shead is scoring 11 PPG and dishing out 5 assists per game. SG Tre Nottingham and PF Alex Peacock are adding 10.5 and 10 PPG, respectively.

Depth chart appears to look like this through 2 games:
1 - Jaylen Shead, Mason Harrell, Tre Nottingham (Marlin Davis out injured indefinitely)
2 - Tre Nottingham, Isaiah Gurley
3 - Nijal Pearson, Shelby Adams, Akiem Daschner
4 - Alex Peacock, Quentin Scott, Akiem Daschner
5 - Eric Terry, Chandler Davis, Alonzo Sule

Scouting Drake
Drake is 1-1 on the young season. They opened up the year at home beating DIII Buena Vista 98-52 before losing to Colorado in Boulder 100-71. They went 17-17 last year and finished tied for 3rd in the Missouri Valley at 10-8. They were upset in the quarterfinals of the MVC tournament by Bradley before accepting an invitation to the CIT where they went 1-1, beating ACU before ending their season with loss to Northern Colorado.

Despite finishing in a tie for 3rd last year they were picked to finish 9th in the preseason poll in the 10 team MVC. Darian DeVries is in his first season with Drake after spending 20 years as an assistant at Creighton.

Just one starter returns for Drake in 6-8 F Nick McGlynn. McGlynn averaged 11.8 PPG and 5.7 RPG last year and is averaging 9.5 PPG and a team leading 8.5 RPG this year. Their leading scorer is UAB grad transfer Nick Norton. Norton is a 5-10 G averaging 17.5 PPG who has hit 7 of 11 3-point shots he's put up this year. Coming off the bench, 6-2 G Noah Thomas is averaging 12.5 PPG. Freshman G DJ Wilkins is adding 11 PPG and has hit 6 of 14 3-point attempts.

Tip-off is at 2pm tomorrow and game will be on ESPN3.

McGlynn is killing us inside, our big men are getting schooled underneath on both sides of the ball. :? :?

Much as in years past, we're having trouble in the backcourt. We're trying to not play soft, and as a result we are forcing inside shots that aren't there or turning the ball over.

We were down 19 at one point, but thanks to some stifling defense, we went on a 12-0 run before Drake called a T.O.

Great finish by Pearson on the dunk and the big guys inside seem to be less aggressive trying to force an inside shot and looking for a secondary shot when they are double teamed. :-||

It doesn't matter if Norton was inside the half circle or not, his feet were still moving. Yet another bogus charging call.

Two point game (despite poor refs) with 57 secs left. What a comeback by TxSt!

Absolutely horrible call. That was going to be a 3 point play. The defender did not have feet set.

Four quick fouls and two more charges after that when we closed the lead was unbelievable. Overall, they played really good.

The panicked way they played in the first half did them in. The comeback fell short with a frustrating finish. I’m glad they fought back and pushed Drake around all second half. There was a weird possession late where the refs called 3 straight touchy fouls when they had been letting that slide all half. It seemed to me like they changed the way they were calling the game from that point on.

Yeah, final was 75-69.

Their big guys completely dominated us. Both had double digit points and combined for 18 rebounds while creating eight turnovers and nine fouls. We have to learn to be more polished and less out-of-control physical in the post.

And right before that they had called another foul on the offensive side and finished it off with the phantom charge we both mentioned before. That two minute stretch certainly turned the game for the Bulldogs, we were cruising before that sequence. In a game where we had 13 steals, it was once again shooting 25% from beyond the arc and 57% from the FT line that did us in.

We have to be more disciplined and throw up less panicked 3 pointers. Any one of those 15 missed threes could have swung the game for us when you consider we were only down 2 with a minute left. That's potentially 30 points we left on the court (by going for 2 instead of 3's).
