Wow, looks like it would be a nice get. Haven't seen any film on him yet but it seems to me this would be another significant add along with Harrell.

Watched his highlight video from his senior year. He is a 'below the rim' player that plays the backboard well. Looks to box out well against mostly smaller opposing players. His level of competition didn't look impressive. He will need to get with a nutritionist/trainer to work on that body. I don't know if a vertical is hidden in there somewhere...I hope so.

Cunningham makes it official (at least verbally)....

We're 5 days away from the end of the signing period. Commitments this late should be pretty safe.

I'm still expecting one more commitment if my math is right. But haven't heard anything on any other possible commits.

247 doesn't do a great job with basketball ratings at the mid-major level. But for what it's worth Cunningham is our 3rd highest rated commit ever. Behind Johnathan Sloan (who was a complete bust) and Ryan White (who was a stud).

He’s a 3* on Rivals as well. But they list him as still being committed to New Mexico. Agree, should have one spot left. I assume an incoming transfer could be likely if no news on another signee.

I honestly don't get the 3 star rating. He looks fundamentally sound but his athleticism and conditioning are questionable. If you watch the hype video below, he's doing his damage against what looks to be some pretty weak competition. I hope I am wrong.

I think his athleticism looks just fine. Watch a few more tapes. There are some AAU or summer ball tapes against better competition than the video you posted.

Looks like he has at least an adequate outside shot and has some ball handling skills. Those things are plusses for 6'9" 240 lb guys at this level.

He does finish below the rim a lot, but he's got good touch off the glass so why not. In one of the other tapes he throws down a pretty vicious one hand slam so he has the ability to get up.

If conditioning is an issue, I feel pretty confident Kaspar will get that remedied very quickly. I like this prospect and intrigued to see how he develops in our system.

I agree with you on that...if he's 6'9.

Tomorrow is the final day of the signing period.

With 3 guys signed for 4 openings we'll either,
A. Have a 4th sign tomorrow
B. Expect a transfer from another NCAA school
C. Promote Quentin Scott to a scholarship player and add another walk-on
D. Play a scholarship short.

D should be out of the question.

unless of course youre ew withers then playing a lot of scholarships short is the preferred mode of operations that way theres always something to pull out of the back pocket when things (not surprisingly) go south..keeping the cupboard full requires work. work that no one who comes to san marcos expects to put in. after all everyone but woodard and chisum live at country clubs

#countryclubU: where all the burnt out staff members across the country come to settle down their careers and transition into early retirement

I know this wasn't your main point, but Kaspar doesn't live in a country club either. He lives the equivalent of about 5-6 blocks from me. But your point otherwise stands regarding cruise control staff in the AD.

I cannot picture Kaspar keeping a scholarship in his back pocket. That is fairly easy in football, but pocketing a scholarship in basketball when you have so few to start with is a pretty poor decision.

I think Kaspar promotes Scott to scholarship. I don't think pulling a transfer is likely (or necessary), and I don't see anything in the tea leaves indicating another potential signing floating around out there.
