Post Game Thread - Vs. Little Rock
After 3 straight road games, the schedule has evened out for the remainder of the season with 4 games remaining in San Marcos and 4 on the road. Expect the intensity to ratchet up significantly with most of the teams at the top of the standings finally playing each other over the course of the next few weeks. There is a 3-way tie for first right now and the Bobcats are just 2 games back of the leaders in 5th place. The race is on for a top 4 seed. The top 4 teams get a first round bye in the Sun Belt tournament next month.

Up first for the Bobcats is a meeting with the defending champion Little Rock Trojans at 4:30pm Saturday inside Strahan Coliseum. After dominating the league last year, the Trojans have taken a significant step back during this season after losing their head coach to Texas Tech and their two best players from last year. They currently sit tied for 9th in the league with a 4-7 conference record. They are coming off a win at home vs. App State on Monday night. They had lost 4 straight prior to that win on Monday.

Unfortunately for us, they get one of their best players back from injury, in Lis Shoshi. His absence assuredly contributed to that 4 game losing streak. Also, unfortunately for us, it comes at our weakest position as Shoshi is the starting big man for the Trojans. The 6-11 forward from Kosovo is averaging 10.1 PPG and 7.5 RPG. King will have his hands full with Shoshi and it will be important he stays out of foul trouble. Starwood has been outplayed in the paint the last two games after being forced to play as we had to sit King with foul trouble.

Shoshi isn't the most dangerous player on Little Rock's roster however. Senior point guard Marcus Johnson, Jr. averages 14.2 PPG, 3.2RPG, and 3.0 SPG. He also shoots 33.1% from 3. He was the best 3-point shooter in the Sun Belt last year when he shot 46.6% for the season. Ojai Black will be tasked with defending Johnson.

Texas State is currently favored by 2.5 points (down from 3.5 yesterday).

With the top 3 teams all losing on the same night we pull within 1.5 games of 1st with our win. I misspoke earlier and said we were 2 games back when we were 2.5 games back to start the day.

HUGE 3 game stretch coming up with Arkansas State in Strahan on Monday night followed by a road trip to take on the Georgia schools.

When things got close late Nigal Pearson made an off balance shot that seemed to right the ship. KGT made a long 3 as well that prevented LR from coming back. Nice to be talking about how close we are to the top teams instead of the bottom. Monday's game will tell us alot about the mentality of this team.

Huge 3 by KGT late.

Story of this game obviously wasn't the offense. The stars of the game in my eyes were Ojai Black and Immanuel King. Marcus Johnson Jr went 2/12 from the field and Shoshi was 1/6. Black did a tremendous job guarding Johnson. I think they wanted to run their offense through Johnson, but Black was able to lock him down without us needing to ever double. King also did a great job on Shoshi despite giving up 3 inches to him. Granted, Shoshi isn't 100% healthy yet, but still.

Pretty ugly game as neither team was very good offensively, but these are two of the best defensive teams in the league. Big win going into the next 3 games, in which we play the top 3 teams in the league back to back to back.
