Post Game Thread - @ Troy - ESPN3
After a tough loss in Mobile at South Alabama on Saturday night the Bobcats head north to Troy to take on the Trojans tonight at 7pm.

A 1-1 split on this road trip would probably be a minor success.

Troy is coming off a big 93-71 win over a Kevin Hervey-less UTA team Saturday night in Troy. On the season they are 10-8 overall and are tied with TXST at 2-2 in conference play. They beat Georgia State in Atlanta last weekend after starting 0-2 with losses on the road to South Alabama and Georgia Southern.

Junior Shooting Guard Wesley Person is back and is averaging 14.4 PPG on 38.8% shooting from 3. He went 10/15 from 3 against UTA on Saturday and poured in 39 points in the victory. Bobby Conley will likely get tasked with guarding Person. The leading scorer so far this year though is 6-6 forward Jordan Varnado, who is averaging 15.2 PPG and is also Troy's leading rebounder with 6.8 RPG. He also shoots 42.5% from 3. Tilbury will likely be guarding Varnado tonight. Another weapon for Troy comes off the bench in 6-3 guard Jeremy Hollimon. Hollimon is averaging 11.4 PPG and is an outstanding 3-point threat shooting 47.2% from 3 on the season. This team has multiple outside threats if you can't tell and shot lights out from deep Saturday against UTA going 17/31 as a team from 3 en route to 93 points. Troy has a high-powered fast-paced offense that will contrast greatly with Kaspar's stiff defense and grind it out offensive style. Both teams will try to keep the game at their pace.

Last season we split two games 1-1 vs. Troy with the home team winning each game.

Tip-off is at 7pm and will be broadcast on ESPN3 and available on the watchESPN app. Troy are currently favored by 5.5 points.

I saw Wesley Person and had to look up his profile. Sure enough, that's the son of former NBA player Wesley Person who was the younger brother of Chuck Person, AKA The Rifleman. He looks exactly like his dad. Has a similar game too based on the stats.

I could be wrong and not going to look it up, but I think the Varnado at Mississippi State set the NCAA record for blocks. Either in a season or in his career.

Nice job. You are correct, sir. I remember him being a beast and trying to make it in the NBA. Never knew this:

Varnado played for Mississippi State in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) of the NCAA Division I from 2006 to 2010.

He led the NCAA in blocks for the 2007–08 season with 157 blocks, tying Shaquille O'Neal for the most blocks in a season in the SEC. In the 2008–09 season, he would break that single season record with 170 blocks.

On November 21, 2009, Varnado became the SEC's all-time career block record holder with 413 total blocks in his career. This passed O'Neal's career block record of 412.[2] On January 23, 2010, Varnado surpassed Adonal Foyle on the NCAA's Division I all-time career blocks list to become the second-leading shot-blocker. Needing 8 blocks for the record, Varnado became the NCAA's Division I all-time shot blocker against Alabama on February 24, 2010 passing Wojciech Myrda's record of 535 career blocks.[3]

Varnado was named SEC Defensive Player of the Year in 3 consecutive years (2008, 2009 and 2010) becoming the first person to ever do so. He is one of just two college players in history to achieve the milestone of 1,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 500 blocks (along with David Robinson).[4]

9-8 Bobcats at first media timeout.

Black is guarding Person instead of Conley. Conley guarding Troy's PG.

15-13 Troy with 8 minutes till halftime.

King's ability to finish at the rim is probably about on par with Catmom.

TXST leads 27-23 at halftime. KGT leading TXST with 12 points, 5 rebounds, and a steal. Juan Davis leading Troy with 6 points, 3 rebounds.

Troy averages 81 PPG. Just a biiiiit under their average through the 1st half tonight.

I like what I see from Starwood. It's there...Kaspar is going to have to pluck it out.

Missing that wide open look under the basket with nobody within 4 feet of him is infuriating though.
