Post Roster 2018 (position changes, weight gains, etc...)
Roster link: https://txstatebobcats.com/roster.aspx?path=football

-Saul noted from Austin TXST Bobcat Club Withers note Waddy to S but still listed as CB; I wouldn't be surprised as many roster changes may not fully happen until August camp ends... if at all.

-All new CBs/S listed as DBs now: JC Alvin Pacheco (I think CB and he tweeted that after he committed), Isaac Pope (I think will get look at CB), Jarron Morris (no doubt a CB), Ladarius Anthony (I think he'll be a CB), CJ Johnson (I think S), Tyrese Heard (I think S), Kishawn Kelley (I'd say he'll be a S), and Dennis Johnson (S is my guess).

-DL : Jake Lynch listed at 6'5/230; JaCourtney Calvin 6'4/230; Dotson Schaefer 6'4/235 DL; Nico Ezidore 6'3/290

-OL: Morgan Moore 6'5/230!!!! Ah... TXST staff; NO WAY he's that small. I'm guessing he's 280; JC Kameron Jamison Sophomore 6'5/310 (I forgot he was still pretty young and not a junior)

-TE: Keenan Brown 6'3/250 grad transfer (his receiving stats are nothing to hype up so I gotta think he's a blocking TE type, which we are in dire need of); I see no transfer TE that played in spring game everyone liked on roster (I want to say he was a transfer from a Florida school; name was something like Flinta)

Not as many updates to size but this does seem to be their August camp 2018 roster.

Morgan Moore was listed at 280 when he signed, that seems like just a typo.

I don't think weight was adjusted for current players. They usually make that update in August.

Other than the spring transfers TE Flinta and S Smith, I didn't notice any other attrition. Both of those guys looked good in the spring game though.

Vatterott is no longer on the roster and was a part of the ‘16 class. Never remember seeing him on a depth chart or on the field so shouldn’t be a big loss.

Think on media day, the 23rd, we’ll get the first official roster and may see some of the position changes that have/will happen.

All good points. I probably did this too soon but as you noted some spring game guys that played well are not on roster. It may be just early and things haven't been finalized.

Thanks for the link but still has players undersized like Hines 225 but everywhere else he's up to 240.

not sure if this is the right thread, and i don't have a sub to theathletic.com, but appears there is some more good ink on brewer:

@BruceFeldmanCFB
Why one coach who worked with some 1st-RDers and All-American centers in the SEC thinks his guy at #TxState is better; another Christian Kirk? And #USC LB Cameron Smith got to work out with @Panthers great Luke Kuechley and this is what he learned;

The staff seemed to emphasize his body type in the ‘18 class. Lynch, Schaefer, Calvin all 6-4/6-5 230ish. The Dline needed to get some more length to it after they recruited and beefed up what they currently had, but 6-2 was the tallest DLman outside of Taylor. Hopefully the new guys have success in putting on the weight.

Anyone see this late yesterday?

Eric Mateos

Also..S/O to our Strength staff lead by coach AB. Our guys look great. @BigCooks76 came in at 265. He’s 285. @tateisboosted dropped from 325 to 308. @LegendLife97 went from 279 to 291. @bigsiah2009 is 310 & @rowland_70_ up to an impressive looking 307. #BIGcats

Cooks up to 285
Heitmeir down to 308
Brewer up to 291
Washington up to 310
Rowland up to 307

Getting bigger, hopefully means more physical.

Sure hope to see Momerelle and Moore with similar improvements in size and same for some of the new OL like Wilkins.

Well...

Depth Chart has been posted.

Offense: https://twitter.com/Nick_Castillo74/status/1034954109080748033
-Biggest surprise is Twyford at backup RB! Wow. Not because he can't play position but Brown has some talent to see him not there.
-Washington backing up both LT and LG is interesting. Telling that depth there is still thin.
-No freshmen in 2 deep after a good showing by Cooks and no Jemison on 2 deep either; my guess is they just aren't ready
-Only surprise to me at WR is Powell backing up at one WR spot (White to inside spot); again not sure if freshmen are ready to take on starting spot; I'd expect a few to play and slowly be added
-Totally fine with TE position and hope he can make a difference in blocking game and anything in passing game is additional

Defense: https://twitter.com/Nick_Castillo74/status/1034954591044022272
-Again, no true freshmen on 2 deep
-No real surprises here other than Roach still not on 2 deep

I keep saying no freshmen on 2 deep but that is not a bad thing as we've had to do that in the past (Dean Taylor, Hines, and others had to backup where now we don't have to). I'm not sure it means we are deeper or they just aren't ready to start... could be both.

Only surprise to me as far as starters is Haydel at WR. Figured that would be Hays, Bedford, and Watts.

Surprises to me on offense for backups:
Figured Kylar Cooks would be the backup LT.
Expected Carlile to be the backup C, not RT.
Kelton Powell in the 2-deep surprises me. As bobkat34 pointed out, I'm a bit surprised to see no true freshman in the 2-deep (agree that isn't a bad thing). The one position I thought we had a really good spot to see a true freshman is at WR.
Also surprised to see Twyford in the 2-deep at RB. I've heard next to nothing on Robert Brown throughout camp. Wonder what's up with him. Definitely expected Brown or Jaylin Nelson as the primary backup. Though I think we'll rotate at least 3 RBs anyway.

Pretty much what I was expecting on defense. Was wondering who the hell Binky Coleman was until someone brought to my attention it's Markaveous Coleman.

I sure hope Sherman has taken a big step forward from last year. We have to be better in the kicking game. STs as expected.

technically vitt is in the 2deep w/ the -or-

looking at the starters...9/11 on defense have 2L+ experience, only 5/11 on offense - but 2 transfers hurt that a bit. still, need that side of the ball to gel quickly.
