Wait... What!?!?!

Omg, you're hopeless. Now you're going to pretend to know about campaigning. Stick to mediocre sports writing.

i know your campaign led to less than 4% of the votes being cast for you. that's really all anyone needs to know, isn't it?

After reading up on the Sunbelt football records last year, why are we ready to give ULM (4-8; 4-4 SB record), Louisiana 5-7; 4-4), South Bama (4-8; 3-5), and Georgia Southern (2-10; 2-6) automatic Ws on us?

Nothing in their record say they are dominantly better than us. ULM is returning most of their offense so that is a strength they can lean on; Louisiana has a new coach but I'm not sure QB is a secure position; South Bama has new coach... not much else to say; and Georgia Southern too has a new coach (DeBesse, remember him?) to run their triple option.

I'm not ready to call any of these games Ws but they are far from obvious losses. Its good to see how others have struggled last season to churn out a winning season. Yes, we have our issues but these 4 including Coastal Carolina (we don't play this season) are still trying to improve.

I don't count on any automatic W's or L's for us except for us to win over our FCS opponent, and that's really only because I just cannot accept that we are going to lose to a group that is a division below us.

But I would bet the rationale is as follows:
ULM: They are always sneaky decent, winning games they shouldn't and losing games they shouldn't. I still agree with you that they are far from an automatic either way for us.

Cajuns: They just flat out have had our number since we moved into FBS. I get a new coach and questions at QB, but until we can show we can compete against them, I accept that we are losing to them (not happy about it, but it's the reality that we live in now).

USA: I have no idea. I don't think they are world beaters, so I can't see why anyone would think they are an automatic either way.

Georgia Southern: They are returning to the Triple Option (supposedly), and we have yet to beat them in FBS.

Really bothers me how GS fans on the Sun Belt board all think they're going to magically go 7-5 or better this year. Maybe they will, but who knows? That's fine to have expectations like that, but God forbid a TXST fan show any optimism and we get laughed at. I mean I know things haven't worked out thus far but maybe the process will eventually work, but again, who knows? We'll never know if we don't give it a chance.

You know what I think is funny about GS?

As I recall, the times we've played them as FBS they have actually scored several touchdowns with downfield passes that then cracked us open like a damn egg to get lit up from every direction.

That is what has always made GS's triple option special--they don't pass often but when they do they really fuck you up.

I just rewatched the ULL game on YouTube. I forgot how good of a game Willie played. I forgot that he pretty much played 3/4 of the game. Got me really excited about this upcoming year.

If we lose to DeBesse, I don't think Withers should be allowed to come back to Texas State on the team charter.

We are 15+ years removed from DeBeese. He isn't the same coach anymore and has matured substantially. There are plenty of examples of coaches that were mediocre or not particularly good early in their careers, but become good coaches later after having effective mentoring relationships and maturing. THIS IS NOT A COMPARISON TO DEBEESE, but a certain NFL coach in the Greater Boston area is an example of early career problems followed by success.

I haven't looked closely at all at what the cupboards look like that DeBeese is inheriting. Given their attempt at an offensive change-up prior to the new coach, it is likely that player personnel do not match the desired return to a pure Triple Option. The thing is, DeBeese is not a stubborn adherent to a particular offensive philosophy, though he is a "run first" guy. He will adapt to the talent he has, as he did at his coaching stops subsequent to us. His offenses at SHSU and New Mexico were potent, and also quite different from one another.

We have no automatic wins because we are the basement of the conference until proven otherwise.

looks similar to us: not many impact seniors, mostly younger players who have played a lot already. most of the coaching staff stayed as well.

I’m living on the East Coast now and I can tell you if Big 10 Rutgers looses to us there will be a new Head Coach at Rutgers by the time the post game press conference is over.
To Rutgers, we’re an afterthought at best!

That is all fine and dandy but the reality for Rutgers is they aren't a very good team so the statement stands that we could indeed surprise them and beat them.

As a Rutgers fan, they are not looking past you. In fact, you visit one of the message boards (rivals), you'll see a fanbase thinking the sky is always falling.

It should be a good game. The game is during Labor Day weekend, so if you are planning on spending a few days in the area, you should try to get to the Jersey Shore. The Jersey Shore (beach) is a little different than your typical beach, and it's about 40 minutes from Rutgers campus. For nighttime entertainment, you could go to NYC (Manhattan) which is 40 minutes north of Campus. Also, you could go to Philly (an hour south) for fun. If you have no desire to travel too far, New Brunswick (Rutgers University) has an active nightlife for a small city. There are lots of restaurants, bars, and several theatres with off-broadway shows. Another option is for individuals who like to gamble, take a trip to Atlantic City. It's a long trip that's almost 2 hours away at the southern tip of NJ. Most of the casinos sit on the beach along the world-famous boardwalk.
