It is a punter. We need one. It is a PWO. Why are we complaining?

Because the staff continues to bring in kids who have no better or even fairly equal offers. Why can they not out recruit similar teams, let alone a few better programs?

Look at last year's roster. They knew the previous punter would not be coming back for his last season of eligibility, yet they weren't able to find a scholarship-worthy punter? How can an FBS program be content with not having a punter talented enough to get a scholarship on the roster, especially considering how anemic our offense was (and looks to be once again)?

They tried to run off the kicker and didn't expect him to return. Shit, they wanted to run him off so badly that they let a linebacker kick in a game because the head coach didn't want the kicker in the program anymore. Thinking he wasn't coming back, they went out and gave another kicker a scholarship. Now, you have two kickers on scholarship (one that you don't want), no punters on scholarship, no long snappers on scholarship, and you're recruiting PWOs that only have the same offers from bad FCS schools.

And you ask why there are complaints.

The man ain't lying. He hates it. Has for years.

Hell, I still quote posts just to fuck with him even if the reply has nothing to do with the original quote at all.

He'd have really hated the test of the software to see how many quotes we could get embedded back in the infancy of this place. I think we found out the number was 23.

Now those are complaints I can get behind. This program has had problems with kickers ever since the moving to FBS. There was one good one. I don't remember having such poor field goal kicking as a FCS team. Now I assume XPs and FGs will be missed.

Didn't they just land 2 K/Ps in c/o 2018?

Yes, Kessler's only other offer was from Army which dried up quickly. Texas State out recruited nobody for him.

Stewart's only other "offer" was a preferred walk-on from the worst FBS team in the country last year (UTEP). So, again, Texas State out recruited nobody for him.

The trend continues.

It's amazing. Texas is the state most recruited in the entire country. Somehow, Texas State keeps offering and stealing these kids who have no other offers except a full scholarship to float the rivers in San Marcos. Either this staff is unbelievable at discovering hidden talent that no other schools see worthy enough for offers or they are signing crap. Based on back-to-back 2 win seasons with an inevitable miserable season coming up again, I tend to believe it is the latter.

So lets count:

long-snappers: 2, neither of whom had other offers
punters: 2, neither of whom had other offers
kickers: 2, one of whom the staff tried to chase away but then begged to come back since they didn't have another kicker in the spring; the other whose only offer was Texas State.

In total, that makes six specialists, only one of whom had any other offers and the staff tried to chase off. Three of the six are on scholarship with only one of those (the senior) having had another offer.

yeah i mean to runfasters point if were just going to bring in fcs targeted recruits then by all means shouldnt that be the teams we should be playing against? i for one would not mind at all winning 8-9 games a year and maybe more with playoffs and getting the opportunity to play against high profile fcs teams all season long.

lol just lower your expectations and reset how your mind works like they continually tell me then youll set yourself up for pleasantly surprised mediocrity in a best case scenario. i mean it worked for peter gibbons, right?

at an ordinary program i would make a slight argument that special teams is not all that important but in our case when our punter starts getting warmed up on 1st down at midfield knowing how withers will inevitably find a way to come up short of the endzone well then we have a hell of a problem bringing in fcs talent. we use abuse and rely on special teams way way way too much and by way too much i dont mean the kickoff team because we usually only see them but once or twice a game... or in the rare cases where withers might ask our qb to take a knee in our own endzone for a merciful safety

Funny how you use "high profile" and "FCS teams" in the same sentence lol.

Just a guess here, because... well, I don't know (I'm not that big into recruiting to begin with), but given those are specialists, I would imagine most programs in general aren't offering a bevy of scholarships to them, instead inviting them to be PWO's, and finding the best of the lot to give a schollie to, then telling the others to go play soccer?

Now, for our other recruits (I'll use the phrase "traditional" because... well, I want to), I see your concern as valid.

I just look at the overall scenario differently (and some may HATE my perspective on it): The guy most likely isn't going anywhere after this season, so I'm not gonna get upset. I'm not going to be all rah-rah about it, I'm just gonna let it ride, as Teis isn't doing anything to change up the coaching, and I don't really trust him to make a decent hire to begin with.

All of this arguing over a PWO!?! Hilarious!

We have verbal commits from three 3* and one 2*...

2018 kickers:
https://247sports.com/Season/2018-Football/CompositeRecruitRankings?InstitutionGroup=HighSchool&Position=K
-Out of the 37 listed on 24/7, Kessler and Stewart are 22 and 33. From that list, 1st G5 commit/signee was #17 and #20... then Kessler.

Kicking hasn't been a strong point no doubt but the last two recruiting cycles had bigger needs for position players that play more than say 15 times a game.

Back to 2019 recent commits:
-DT will only help depth with Henderson and NT Richardson on board, winning in the trenches may be in the future. With Awad finishing this season as well, this is big... pun intended.
-A athletic and speedy RB, I can see him used in so many ways like Watts has been used and likely how incoming WR Sheread will be used.

lets hold the applause for february... withers (everett or kira) and tyler jones mom still have 8 months to do something silly to cost us some key recruits...until then as im constantly reminded it is merely a tug-o-war. or who is to say woods or mooring doesnt split before the 2019 season because it seems to have been trending as that may come as a shock to some of you.
this is not a big get....this will be a big get... never speak in present tense as a bobcat it only brings you agony

i'd bet anything henderson is a *** by signing day. he's rated about as high as a prospect can be w/o being *** and at this point in the year that's an eval issue. henderson is the 270th ranked player in tx today, and the last *** player is #268. the last *** player in 2018 is the 351st ranked.

hard to be too upset w/ this recruiting cycle right now.
