Thanks, I edited above. Also placed asterick by players that could move to different positions like Brewer at G and C and Graham ILB (practiced there last spring) and OLB.

Just me talking (and I am by no means an expert, I think we can all agree), but to me it makes perfect sense.

WJIII is a pure athlete who is not a great thrower, so he can contribute immediately with his legs.

QB2 & QB3 are more proficient passers, have more solid mechanics, etc. But they don't know the offense as well, and aren't as adept at the reads. Redshirt them, let them pick up the offense, and then compete in the next season.

Now OBVIOUSLY, I am making a whole slew of assumptions on both abilities and knowledge of the offense.

And of course, to clarify, I am not speaking from a point of insider information. I am merely speaking of scenarios.

He was the best passer in the group of incoming Freshmen that we had last year. Tyler will probably be a Day 1 starter this Fall.

$35 million dollar budget and we can't invest in a microphone with a fucking windscreen ($10 on Amazon). Those interviews are unwatchable.

More videos by Coach Mateos:

-Brewer vs. what looks like #7 something. Only DL with a #70 is #73 Jaquel Pierce

-Josiah Washington vs. #98 Gjemar Daniels... If that is Daniels 315lbs, impressive by Washington

https://twitter.com/CoachMateos/status/982256369788059654
-Washington vs. Patton... I'm really hope we consider Patton to DT with Awad, Daniels, Lilly at NT. With loss of Mittie, I can't think of another DT other than Taylor that can play there and more importantly could make the loss of Mittie not as big a deal. Patton seems to have the same type of motor and I'd argue more athleticism than Mittie.

-Carlile vs. Dean Taylor... Taylor dominates RS Freshman.

-PWO Janak vs. PWO Booker...

Dennis Johnson is listed as DB now on the Spring Roster. Don't think the above is going to happen.

-DC Chris Woods

I missed this interview and if he's remotely telling us the truth... I like what I'm hearing.

-Conceptually a 3-4, but set up defense is having London line up players

-We'll move Patton around because he's so athletic... I think this lead to my hope he move to DT where he can be better use.
-Kingsley Onyirioha and Pierce are battling at DT, this leads me to wonder if Taylor is back at DE.
-Vinson and Brannon competing at OLB... Unless 2 of those PWO LB are earning a ship, I don't see how Brannon doesn't back up at ILB.
-Griffin by far one of best athletes per Woods... not surprising
-London/Daniels are solid... different personalities but good
-AJ built for this scheme as is London
-CB Roach picked up hammy injury but has potential
-S Rodgers and AJ are looking good

I'm hoping Woods does some things a bit different than McCray but only a bit different. I liked how McCray on 3 and longs went with a DT and 2 LBs but we are just not good enough at those positions to be able to get to QB with 3. I'm hoping we see more opportunity to still look 34 with a DT, NT, and DE yet we bring another be it OLB Vinson, Griffin, or ILB London/Daniels (or have 2 interior DL 1-a DT/NT, 2-a DE/OLB, 3-OLB... put best chance on the field... Ex: Awad & Patton interior and either Vinson/Hines or Vinson/Davis).

If you are overly talented OLBs, the 1 DL and 2 OLBs can work but if not... we need to find other ways to get pressure on those 3rd and long and not have to rely on dropping 8. Many times it didn't matter if we dropped 8... they still got the 1st down.

If our DL/OLBs looks like this, I'll be excited:
OLB- Vinson, Hines (yes, I think this is his natural position), Smith
DT- Patton, Onyirioha, Pierce, Ezidore
NT- Awad, Daniels, Lilly (Patton still in mix in certain schemes)
DE- Davis/Taylor, Wilkins (maybe, not sure where he fits), freshmen DEs
OLB- Griffin, Graham, Coleman, Harris
ILB- London, Lewis
ILB- Daniels, Brannon (yes, I think this is his natural position), Graham maybe?

Heck, even if half of this is right... I can see improvements along this DL.

I still think we may bring in another JC DL guy but we'll see.

Gotta get right in the trenches or nothing else matters.

Spring Practice info from Pieeaters:

Pieeaters
As for the o-line, L to R-
Ones= Brewer, Heitmeier, Jordan, Washington, Rowland
Twos= Tachie, Carlile, Fryrear, King, Janak
Lemons has been getting reps with the twos. Foster is in concussion protocol and unable to practice.

I hear the o-line has been developing some good chemistry as of late and is “winning” against the defense recently. Should make for an interesting Spring Game. Also, I think Vattertot has been injured most if not all of the Spring.

Post Re: Offseason workouts and Spring Camp
According to what I’ve seen and am told, the following is what I am anticipating on Saturday;

QB- WJIII
RB- Nelson/Taylor
TE- Rushing
RT- Rowland
RG- Washington
C- Jordan
LG- Heitmeier
LT- Brewer
WR- Watts/White/Haydel/Bedford

DT- Pierce
NT- Awad (Taylor moved to NT, isinjured and may not play)
DE- Smith/Hines (Patton is injured and may not play)
ILB- London & Daniels
OLB- Vinson & Griffin
CB- Rodgers & Taylor
S- Krawczyk & Newman

Much of the defense is based on what I’m told. Patton and Taylor would start if they weren’t injured. May play, remains to be seen. Brannon will get a lot of snaps. Receivers and running backs will alternate fairly regularly. I’m not sure if the starters are set outside of Watts. Smith and Hines could alternate plays at DE.

Best guess. We’ll see come Saturday!

the 1st 11 on defense looks better than we've had in quite a while, imo.

Agreed. Should have some solid depth too. Get Davis and Waddy back in the summer after missing Spring ball. About that offense though...

Thanks for the info Pieeaters
