Post We're right about half way through the season
The debate starts now.

Is Withers on track to post the 8 win season that is expected of him in year 3?
Have we progressed or degressed since AppSt?
Based on the talent we realized we had during the App game is Withers under performing or over performing as an in-game coach?

Well we're 5/12 of the way through the season, so you're both equally wrong.

Its hard to say if we are on track for eight wins next season. We will add a recruiting class by then. I will say the influx of talent this year has helped. We have held out some of our talent that is injured and that is a smart move. I say save it for conference. As for Williams he is like a pitcher able to get through his innings. There is no need to get anybody hurt. Otherwise we are hopefully looking for at least two more wins this year. Next week's opponent at home LA Monroe beat LA Lafayette and we have never even competed at any point when we played LA Lafayette so not sure there. Otherwise there is (1-2) GA State. They beat Charlotte so that hopefully keeps us out of the 128 Club. At least GA State has an FBS win.

I’m thinking these questions are rhetorical but lll say this, no matter what you think of him and his future here, there is absolutely nothing positive about this season so far.

Why is eight wins needed in year three? Year one he stripped the program as bare as it gets. This year's team has around 71 scholarship players when every other program is closer to 85. Next year is the first Withers will play on a level playing field as far scholarships go and eight should be a realistic expectation? Not sure that makes sense. Every program/situation is different. You can't use a set number for every program when they hire a coach and say 4-6-8 wins are what must happen in the first three years for every program. That's irrational.

Troy beating LSU right now. We suck. The football program is an embarrassment.
David Bailiff was right the only way we beat UTSA is if we outtailgate them.
12 calls for alcohol poisoning. Nice.

I think most everyone knew we had a VERY small chance of becoming bowl eligible, and thus far, with the exception of UTSA, we've lost to the folks we all kind of expected to lose to.

So, I'm not flipping out just yet. I do still hope/expect to see 2 more wins this season, and I don't think it's insane to think we can do that.

Next season? Hell, I don't know. Can't even begin to say, since we don't know who our QB is gonna be. Jones III looked not bad tonight, but he was playing against backups with a defense that was pretty much told "DO NOT GIVE UP THE Big PLAY! Keep everything in front of you".

At the end of the day, whether you put faith in Withers or not... He's not going anywhere after this season, and probably not next season either. So getting pissed isn't going to do anything other than get your blood pressure up. So, you just keep a hopeful eye for the rest of the season, and see if we can pull in another top SBC recruiting class to get that pair and a spare Withers keeps talking about.

I will say though... I am encouraged that I still haven't seen our team quit in a game, and that is something we didn't have during the Fran era.

Don't look into the LSU game too much. We hired a low functionicg retatd as a head coach and he's made this team into something awful. But I think everyone expected us (tx state) to lose to troy. They're pretty solid.

8 wins by season 3?! Seems like unreasonably high expectations. I just want bowl eligible.

LSU bobcat. Of course 8 wins numb nuts. 7 wins didn't get us into
a bowl. So why anything less for bowl eligibility. Plus our 2018 non conf is a joke compared to the last several.

Sounds like everyone is pulling back the expectations everyone had out of this bro Withers in year 3. Accountability sounds like a year 5 thing now. Even if Troy didn't squeak by lsu withers would still have a speech in place before that game is even played. Basically everyone seems to be saying this season is a wash like that taxman guy and every season that follows is a wash too until any big donor that still exists says it has to end.

Bob... There are additional bowls, and I think in 2018, Idaho will be dropping.

In truth, 6 wins SHOULD garner us an invite, but I would say 7 is a lock.

Last year and the year before, no 6-6 team stayed home... If memory serves.
