slycat, taxman is saying the 3-9 season was caused by injuries.

And that Withers is seeing similar results this season with his guys.

I don't agree with it, because he was claiming 1 win all season before the injuries piled up, but still... That's what he's saying (if I understood him correctly).

That's correct. More specifically, O-line (Center) and WR.

Saying that Withers is seeing the same issue starting to affect his team (injuries). Even with everyone healthy, this team's floor is one win and ceiling is three tops. But with injuries, a UTSA team that would have scored 30 scored 44 instead.

I want to know what the hell is going on with our strength & conditioning program. I know a lot of injuries are unavoidable, but good strength/conditioning training and good technique on the field can help prevent injuries and speed the healing process when they do occur. I think a lot of our injury problems in Fran's final year were the result of terrible strength/conditioning & technique.

Withers is perhaps learning a lesson about what happens when you essentially elect not to play with your full scholarship allotment. Depth is incredibly important at the FBS level. You can hide limited depth in FCS, but you'll get hammered in FBS even in lower G5 conferences. I'm not tremendously bothered that he ran people off, but I think he did it with an element of overconfidence that his coaching ability could overcome significant talent deficits.

Speaking of injuries, per Nick Castillo of the SMDR:
Mason Hays out indefinitely with a fibula fracture.
Ish Davis tore his ACL and likely out for the year.

Those are bad, bad injuries to key contributors. Ugh.

I don't want to be associated with Taxman's opinions on anything, but... I do agree with the premise of this post. There are no excuses. I've heard Withers say things like winners win, and no excuses, talking about his players, well it has to be true of him as well.

Withers is full of rhetoric and no results. It reminds me of Charlie Strong. Only we will take a lot longer to realize the "empty cabinet" excuse is just that, an excuse.

I saw it on FB earlier, but can't find it now... so sorry no link (find it yourself you lazy bastard).

Withers said some of the injuries could be long-term injuries or something to that effect. He didn't mention anyone by name, but the way he was talking made it seem like we might not be seeing a couple of guys the rest of the season.

Davis almost assuredly done for the year with the ACL. He tore his meniscus also. Huge loss.

Hays will depend on severity of the injury. Probably going to miss at least a month, and could possibly be out for the season.

Morbley suffered a grade 2 AC Sprain. Grade 2 means he likely doesn't need surgery and should be back later this season. Hopefully within 2-3 weeks.

All the above are educated guesses for the record.

Keff noted Davis and Hays are out for the year.

"Morbley and (Dennis) Johnson both separated their shoulders on Saturday against the Roadrunners. Johnson is also dealing with bruised ribs. Both players are questionable for Saturday’s game against the Cowboys."

There are excuses. There are always excuses. Like the ones Tax always gives Fran. Hell look at the experience on the two teams. Give the guy a chance. He was playing with less and has less support both financially, with admin, and smaller community. This group is really his first but he's playing with no experience to show those coming up. Tough road. Give him a break. These kids played hard.

I was ten feet away, front row, during the post game conference when Franchione said he was down to the "4th string Center" at one point during the game. So I'd love to hear where you get that I'm reporting "false" information on that. I was literally ten feet from him.

He said "In my 40 years of coaching, I've never seen that many injuries affect a team, particularly within specific position groups"

Fuck how is it that our season ending injuries never occur in the first two games or at the end of the last game? Are any of these kids going to get medical redshirt shirts? I know those fuckers denied Tutt and Anyama a redshirt last year but will they grant Tutt and Rosemond one this year? Or will Tutt have taken 5 snaps his freshman year then bam next season those bastards declare him a junior when really he should be a freshman again?

I'm sure they'll use this as his redshirt year so he'll be a RS soph next year.
He was in 5 games last year, 42% of the season. He was never going to get a medical redshirt.

Anyama was only in 3 games but he wasn't getting one because one of his eligible seasons he participated in a sport and another he was required to sit.
