not dead last anymore

apparently they think a 1-10 g5 fbs team has a better chance of executing this season than a 10-2 fcs big south team that caught fire the last 7 games and only 2 losses came by a combined 2 points

i have a feeling ccu must have lost a lot of players after last year

some of the most dependable and fun players to watch since our the last glimmer of success (2008 season) most of these are even FCS recruits... but the things they would do for our 2017 season though

Iwuji
xavier daniels
bartu
mcCollough
curry
franks
Ijah
battle
chase harper
brad miller
gaines
best
orakpo
germod williams
odiari

The difference with most of these guys with exception of Germod Williams is that they were all juniors and seniors when they were at their best. No pun intended to "Best"! Miller didn't come into his own until his junior/senior year and same for Gaines, McColloch, Iwuji, Daniels, etc...

Here is another question: Who else are you looking to step up or surprise?

i'd love to see dean taylor have a breakout (of nowhere) year at de. we really need someone to step up on the dl, and it's been years since we've had anyone up front have a plus year.

on offense, schrade might be obvious because he's been pretty decent (for us), but i think he's capable of 50+ catches, and being the main receiving weapon. so i'll go w/ rushing jumping up and holding down the other end of the line to give legit mid-range help on both sides.

All good options. Dean Taylor makes sense as does Schrade. The only way Schrade can become more effective from my perspective is we take more chances downfield and open up more windows for the TE.

think this offense works best the other way around. spread the field, run the ball, short passing, then big play over the top. think florida w/ tebow, harvin, hernandez.

Maybe will be better with improved QB play and even better defensive play. We do have a roster full of hungry Bobcats with something to prove.

who do we know that we have that can even beat sunbelt secondary over the top? I saw glimmers last season where Watts could potentially beat some over the top...Luna and King possess the size but maybe not speed to win over the top. Corrales with the size would have been our best bet along with Gunter until he got kicked off. Really hoping Bedford is our ticket to finally go vertical line we were able to do with Ijah (size) and at times Battle and Erickson via George. It's going be hard to find a guy that has an equal combination of size and speed capable of constantly creating mismatches

then again it's hard to tell because we didn't even really challenge much over the top at all last season. Most of our deep passes were underneath comeback out routes passes along the sideline

that's where the scheme to help out the wrs. the spread set separates the defenders so they are isolated and can't help one another in coverage. run heavy playcalling (2:1) along w/ short passes to the flats brings the secondary up looking to help contain. find the eager beaver db and take advantage.

but yeah...someone has to actually be able to take advantage of that opportunity. bummer that pj anderson didn't pan out, because he seemed like that guy when he was signed. maybe bedford or williams can make it happen.

I think Mason Hays is faster than you guys think. I think he'll be an unexpected deep threat.

I was impressed by Dennis Johnson #81 at the practice I got to attend. The WR coach spoke very highly of him as well. I think I remember him saying as far as development goes Morbley, Hayes, Johnson, and Hutch White were the most developed when we were watching film of the practice. I could be misremembering though.

I like Hutch. His film intrigued me. Nice size and can be quite physical.

All good points on possible scheme, WR walk-ons practicing well, and they definitely got more reps than usual in spring with King and Luna out with injuries.
