we need a few QBs to throw balls this spring and if that is what his biggest participation this coming season as well as practice team... I'll take it (to have an experienced QB with 3 freshmen QBs coming in is a good thing).

that's my guess as to why withers would be open to having him around. warm body for the spring and some gpa help.

1 down
2 to go

Good article by Ishmael Johnson:

From this, it seems there are some things to keep an eye on like DL movement and possible rotation changes be it at RB, WR, OL, and maybe even at LB both ILB and OLB. Talent depth at LB is better than I expected.

I'd expect Mittie to get a good amount of reps at NT due to lack of experience there this spring and emergence of Grant Lanza at DE. Also, going into fall practices the only other true NT on spring roster is Lilly at 260lbs so having Mittie at 270 getting spring reps will 'secure' the position as Awad and Daniels come in to compete and if they don't be out Mittie then we have a guy in there that can start the season. Same at DE with Taylor/Davis likely on one side (unless that changes) and Lanza/Mittie or Patton on the other. Either way you look at it... seems to be better depth at all 3 positions on paper. I'm not sure whether Banks has a real chance for minutes but he'll have to earn them if he does.

Same at ILB and OLB.
With Easy out, this allows Vinson more reps with new OLB Coleman while Hines and Griffin back at other OLB position with another coming in this fall. We should have a good 6 ships OLBs on roster and up to 7-8 at ILB with Loyd, London, Daniels, Graham, Lewis, Rubin, and incoming Brannon. That is as quick a turnaround at a position that I've seen ever (going from 5 last year to up to 8 in 2017).

I think RB (Mayberry, Brown, Taylor, Tutt, Smith, maybe Nelson), WR (enter 3 WRs with speed to burn... one thing we lack at position) and OL (will someone step up and earn a guard/tackle spot?) will play itself out but depth will still be limited at all 3 positions.

In the end, don't expect tons of answers this spring other than players getting more reps at either new positions (ILB, NT, DB, RB, and QB).

I'm still waiting to see if we go grad-seniors again, even though we have already with grad-senior walk-on QB Jansen.
