There is no rule that JUCO players have to play 2 seasons even if they go straight JUCO out of HS. I don't think so at least. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Kaspar seems to be a fan of recruiting JUCO guys with 3 years of eligibility left.

As for Costilla, seems very rare for a player to decommit from a school them recommit later down the road. I can't think of a single instance of that occurring off the top of my head.

I'm not sure what your point was about the JUCO players but JC players have to go and earn an Associates degree if they were non-qualifiers out of HS for DI football. If they were qualifiers out of HS, they can go JC and then leave after their 1st year with no Associates degree needed.

In regards to Costilla, I'm not sure how to interpret that tweet other to think he was looking to recommit sometime around June 26th but at that time... we now had 4 only commit on June 24th. Seems to me that his position may be filled with Drake Centers and possibly a one of the other 3 going to play guard. Just my guess. I'm not saying our staff isn't one to change their minds but once a position fills... it fills.

SDSU has left a football playing conference (MWC) for a non-football playing (WAC) all of a sudden now, Saul? first an expert on Ivy League football, now an expert on g5? surely if this kid can get into Harvard he's more than just interested in just getting by to pass

hard to be perfect all day, every day. you should give it a try every now and then - exhausting!

you have no clue if he can get into harvard, or if his offer is really an offer, since harvard doesn't give scholarships, and almost all accepted students get some form of financial aid. feel free to do your homework on where legit harvard "offers" end up going, if not harvard - hint: it ain't sdsu or txst.

Devin Williams-- looked like he did really well in the Blinn spring game... since he took the 2016 season off from football altogether does he still have to do 2 juco seasons before he can qualify for FBS... or can we offer him into the 2018 class?

Gotcha... And yes Devin Williams must do 2 years just like any other non-qualifier out of HS.

update:

Quote:
2017 was our best class ever (by a wide margin). currently tracking for a similar class in 2018.

2017: 79.17 avg, 10/26 *** (38.5% of class)
2018: 79.01 avg, 6/12 *** (50% of class)

2018: 90.01 avg, 5/13 *** (38% of class) - jarron morris dropped to 2* and the new ol is 2*

After finally getting to watch the OL commits from 2 weeks ago, here is what I see:

Cooks looks like a long, lean athletic OT that will need to gain weight but his athleticism are his best asset. He'll need to grow into a college OT but he has the raw tangibles.

Moore similar to Cooks is a long, athletic OT that shows quickness and ability to manage opponents... in HS. I'd consider him a little further along with hands and footwork than Cooks but Cooks potential is solid too.

Manvelle... I see a mauler in the making. He looks like an Arkansas OL (Mateos was a GA at UA for 2 years before moving to LSU last year) from stature to how he tries to throw opponents down. I could easily see him moving inside to guard.

Centers is a guard no doubt. Not as tall as Manvelle but he too can maul opponents at HS level.

Fifield in my view of him is either another guard or possibly could move to center. He's another physical HS OT that would likely move inside at college level. He can run block pretty well from what I see.

It will be interesting to see if we are done at OL. Since we lost JC Pesa for this coming year, that ship can either be used on a senior GA, late signee (I think its still possible but this late, not likely), or move to 2018 class... which is more likely. That being said... it will be interesting if that ship is moved to 2018... what position is in most need.

With 5 DB commits, 5 OL commits, 1 TE commit, 1 WR commit, and 1 DE commit; it would seem we still need 1 more DB (Safety in particular if we have 3 CBs commits as 24/7 indicates) at minimum, 1 more TE, 2-3 DL, 1-2 LBs, possibly 1-2 WRs, 1 QB or 1 RB. That would be about 24 but if we have 25 or 26 (if Pesa ship available) we can go get 1-2 of best available players open.

Just my 2 cents!

I want to comment on Jarron Morris. This kid is quite possibly the best recruit we have in this class. Remember Demarcus Ayers who eventually landed at UH. This kid has the same play making ability as an Athlete. Check out his highlights against Orangefield, the kid's vision is unreal. Hope we hold onto him.

Per Keff, Redding just decommitted and went with UNLV.

Friendswood TE Ben Redding decommits from #TXST for #UNLV. Second '18 commit lost to UNLV (Wylie QB Stacy Conner). 12 commits now for TXST.
