I guess 'warm bodies' is officially the theme of the 2018 class. You'd think with all that losing withers would take recruiting more seriously. he acknowledged that recruiting is the life blood but none of his recruiting so far is going to stop the gushing last 3 years.

sauloman the belt recruiting battle is far from over i see that all 10 teams ‘below’ us are only under us because they have far less amounts of commits than we do. the only team below is that has a lesser average player commit than US is gasouthern. when they catch up in number of players we will go down on the list. hell the only reason we are ahead of stAte is because we have 5 more players than them and we are ahead of gsu because we have 4 more players then them. when it’s all set and done with i expect to finish about 5th in the rankings. 6 of those teams below us haven’t even broken 10 commits yet. do you really expect all those teams to not fill their class?

This may not be the right thread to ask, but when will the EW recruits start to show improvement in the team/maybe win column?

well, his first true class is true freshman right now, although he did recruit some of the sophomores and rsf that are playing now. next year will be the 1st year that the majority of the players on the team are his guys, but they will still be incredibly young.

your understanding of recruiting rankings and timelines is ass, my dude.

only classes w/ comparable numbers can be legitimately included in any assessment, so we're really only looking at appalachian state and their 23 commits. they have the edge w/ 10 3* (the only real metric that matters for p5) to our 7, but we have the higher avg player rating. the next 2, arkst and gast, have 6 3* each and a slightly higher avg due to only having 15 commits.

the reality is that 1st or 5th doesn't mean a whole lot, given the level of recruits we're talking about in this conference - just shades of gray. just better to be near the top than the bottom. i'd put money on us finishing in the top 3, and my guess is we end up 2, possibly 1 if my guess on total takes is correct (~28) and appst holds at 25.

the idea that withers isn't taking recruiting seriously, or that our recruiting isn't going well, is simply nonsense.

Saul-- I too thought we had 27 or 28 scholarships to hand out in this class but Keff tweeted yesterday that we only have 25. Our offensive line is at the bottom of the Sunbelt and though our DL is generally pretty decent at stopping the run we are probably the worst at making the opposing passing game uncomfortable (even before the injuries piled up we weren't at the best of the sunbelt). I will say this about the recruiting rankings... even high 2** lineman particularly OL are hard to come by and depending on how many each team takes in their class can artificially lower that team's ranking. I don't have very many complaints about recruitng thus far but previously where we had been out recruited by other sbc teams is the important positions of need (OL, QB, secondary). It's evidenced by our struggles the last 3 seasons

Correct. Five spots left to fill for #TXST's 2018 class. https://twitter.com/themachine512/statu ... 1971354624

and? i've stated a dozen times why i think we're at 27 or 28. until keff gives a breakdown, or even asks withers about the number, i'm sticking with mine.

To an extent, I get what phratcat is saying... I don't expect us to keep all the guys that are "committed" right now because I figure the P5 guys will start trying to fill holes as their commits start moving around too.

But, everyone else in the Sun Belt has the same situation, so I like that relative to our conference, we look to be in good shape. Depending on the attrition that will happen, we shouldn't be starting behind the rest of the conference. We'll start at the same level of ahead of them.

Don't forget the new early signing period starting Dec 20. It's going to interesting to see how it plays out with recruits. I think it's like a 72 hr window.

Had the number 1 recruiting class in the SBC last year. On pace to finish at the top again and its "warm bodies".

TOTALLY forgot about that! Good point.

Will definitely be interesting to see how that effects the process... Especially that period after.
