Thanks for clarifying.

There is another name I didn't recognize, David Tachie, lists him as a 313 lb OL, He is a transfer from Central Arkansas. Does he have to sit out even though he is coming from FCS school?

Yep, the only time when transfers do not have to sit out a year is when they are transferring from FBS to FCS or any other division.
We had a walk-on transfer from Robert Morris (Grant Lanza), who sat out last year. He earned a scholly in the Spring.

Offers from TXST, Nevada, UTEP, ULM, and ACU. Not bad.

just so we're clear on stars: no stars vs 2 stars is merely a matter of an editor at the site verifying the kid is still breathing and plays football. they are essentially equal standing.

all i care about is getting more 3* kids on board. if we get lucky every once in a while w/ a 2* or unranked or d2 transfer, fantastic. but we should be expecting 12-14 3* recruits over the next couple of classes.

assuming 25 straight up this year, with 17 verbals today and only 6 of them 3*, we need 6 of 8 to hit 12. 2 borderline verbals could get bumps w/ strong sr years - momerelle and deason.

Agreed Saul...

Something to keep in mind:

2017 class had 11 3* signees:
3 out of 4 QB signees were 3* (believe Jones was 2*). Odds of 3 playing QB are not high. While great to have 3 3* QBs/athletes signed, this does not help us in talent unless 1-2 move positions and excel (Nelson & another possibly move positions and excel there). Point is that we signed 4 and unless they move positions the talent doesn't help bother positions.

Other 3* will likely help at other key positions like CB Roach/Rodgers, RB Smith, WR Bedford, ILB Brannon, NT Daniels, and S Newman.

How likely will we bring in three 3* athletes at one position? Not likely.

Keff tweeted this a few days ago:

Top positions of need for #TXST:
QB
WR
ILB
OLB

We may have gotten our OLB in Justin Wright. I don't expect our coaching staff to reach 11-12 3* in this class. It's possible but when we were desperate for talent at QB, I feel that is why we may not reach it as easy as last year. I may be wrong but just how I see it.

I'm ok with high 2*s. The difference between a 2 and 3 is practically negligible.

.7954 is a 2 while .7992 is a 3. Seriously, what would be the difference between these 2 guys? We're talking .0038 in rankings. Maybe a dropped pass or 1 missed block in their highlight films? FWIW, the .7954 was a G5 program and the .7992 is a P5 program.

(these were the two closest I could find in the 2/3* split on 24/7 before I got tired of looking. It could be even closer)

sigh... what's the difference between 9 and 10? or 99.99 and 100? the b grade of 89 or the a grade of 90? of course the players rated closely are going to have a negligible difference, but the groups as a whole are quite different. same as high 3* vs low 4* and high 4* vs low 5*.

the point was to say that there is literally no difference between unrated and 2*, other than someone at a recruiting service verifying that they are alive, so don't get all excited because some recruit went from no profile/unranked to 2*. it means nothing as far as athletic evaluation.

Well maybe it's being looked at from a different perspective, the diff between high 2*/low 3*(or no star/2*). For the casual fan or for the person trying to "talk-up" the program the 3* makes a better impression.

Well... it took a while but we finally have a 24/7 Crystal Ball prediction:

http://247sports.com/Player/DaRyan-Williams-46042768

DaRyan Williams S

One thing I can say is he retweets things TXST says or sends out to recruits including official offer letter.

His vid is pretty good too.

Also, Williams notes he's hearing from every TXST coach. NICE!

Coaches are doing work!

Doesn't mean we'll get him but it does speak to the work our coaches are doing on the recruiting trail.
