Lawrence is 3rd #BeastTexas recruit to commit to TXST:
http://etsn.fm/whitehouses-trevor-lawrence-commits-to-texas-state/

Also, gives some stats on him running 5.1 40 and 7 bench reps at 225. Sounds perfect to me as a DE (DT/DE) in 3-4 D.

East Texas is a very good area in Texas to find players. Other commits are OL Drake Centers and Kyar Cooks. Personally, I think the article should have added CB Jarron Morris as a East Texas commit.

Consider we've added commits from the following areas:
East Texas (4)
Houston and surrounding areas (3)
Dallas/FW and surrounding areas (5); counting JC S Brandon Johnson
Oklahoma (1)
San Antonio/SM/Austin and surrounding areas (1)

it looks like that whole notion of withers being more picky than Fran about the caliber of recruits he gets has completely gone out the window... on paper this 2018 class looks no better than 2017 and no better or worse than any of Fran's 2013-2016 classes

i sincerely hope a lot of wither's 'diamond in the rough' recruits prove me wrong and end up playing like solid 3 ***s, but statistics show that sub-par 2 stars more times than not aren't going to play like solid 3 stars

None of our highest ranked recruits have contributed in meaningful ways. At least in recent memory.
Going off of our 10 highest rated recruits:

1) Kwamane Bowens, played sparingly before quitting
2) Kieston Roach, we'll see
3) Jamel James, doesn't count, never really practiced here
4) Brice Gunter, kicked off team, sloppy route runner when Fran was here.
5) Roosevelt Pearson, played sparingly
6) Jaylin Nelson, we'll see
7) Justin Gamble, red-shirted, was arrested for possession at some point, tried getting in a fist fight with teammates during 2016 Spring Practice, then got kicked off
8) Dila Rosemond, played sparingly, but could make a change for his lasr yr here
9) David Mims, meaningful contributor, all SBC guy
10) Chris French, played sparingly, will probably sit behind schrade and rushing like last yr

Most of our meaningful contributors have been 2 stars. Jones, Lowe, etc etc. Being in the G5 allows us to be successful with 2 stars. What is even the difference between a 78 grade 2* vs a 81 grade 3*?

Looking at the guys that Withers solely recruited: Thurman Morbley, Aaron Brewer (didn't even have an FBS offer before Withers contacted him), Dean Taylor (I'm including him because he'll do well this yr and the rest of his career), Nik Daniels. I want to say Eastling was also recruited by Withers, but I'm not 100% on that.

if anything probably just negligible...however 78 isn't a sub-par 2**

...the lower **s as it relates to 247 is probably a composite below 77... and yes there is often times at least a noticable difference between a 74 and a 84 grade player

 No, No, No  ......There is a difference between Southeast Texas and East Texas. Never try to toss SETX folks into East Texas Category.

the triangle is the triangle, east tx is east tx, houston is houston, and so on. therefore, morris cannot be east tx.

The rest of these guys if they have a P5 offer at all even if it's Purdue or WSU it's their pinned tweet

He hasn't yet posted on twitter his official commit but he "liked" Michael George's tweet above and then I saw his profile list "Committed to TXST".

Lanam might be a big time steal. Long athletic tight end who plays in a wing T offense at Calallen. He only had like 8 catches last year in that offense but the kid has good size and is very athletic. He was a state qualifier in 110 and 300 hurdles and high jump and long jump.

Oh, someone I can keep track of. I live in CC and 27 miles from CC Calallen HS. I'm sure his highlights will be on the local news and in the papers.

Now, if I can only remember to do it.

(Calallen is Far NW and I live Southside)

How about that!!!!!!!!!!! We stole him away from 4yr existing FCS powerhouse HBU. Look at the staff doing huge things this year!!! Get those unranked gems!!!

Thanks for the offensive scheme... I noticed it was different with Jackson out wide and usually blocking on outside. He will definitely need to add weight and get stronger. I'm wondering if we'll take another freshmen TE or go JC as we'll only return Rodgers and Rushing next season.
