of course but a pleasant surprise once in while like kieston roach would be nice even though the ranking with him must have been deceiving since i dont even know if he ever really even saw the field this year. might have been one of the kids that withers was talking about redshirting. we have what either 20 or 21 verbals right now depending on if the kicker turns out to be a scholarship or pwo so that leaves room for 5-8 people in the 2018 class.if he can make some real noise and pickup either of these kids out of left field that are uncommitted to finish the class i will give credit where due. none of them are 4* so it isnt a huge stretch

So much for my deductive reasoning.

As many of you know, I like watching the recruiting process and trying to figure out what we need. It looks like we are going after DE prospects hard looking to add help behind Davis next season.

At DT, we have Mittie, Taylor, Lanza, and Wilkins coming back from injury
At DE, we have Davis and an undersized DE Hines... that is it.
Currently, we have a DE commit in MLB Jake Lynch but at 6'5/211, he'll need time to add weight.

In the last 2-3 weeks, we've offered 2 JC DEs as it is a immediate need position. I'd argue we need three but would likely just take 2 (Lynch and another for immediate help).

Assuming we have 25 and with 21 commits, I'd guess we'll take 1 DE (huge need), 1 TE (may be another need for immediate help), 1 RB/QB (if Kelley moves position, we only have 2 ship players at QB), and last one could be for best player available no matter the depth there. I wouldn't be surprised it be a CB or RB. Just guesses of course.

From what we saw last year, don't be surprised to see some movement before signing day is over. Withers doesn't sit on a signing class until it is done.

especially since we're nowhere close to filling this class.

couple more offers out this week (i'm positive there are plenty more, but searching twitter is a beating):

3* og from midland - best offer purdue, where the hc is a hot name on the carousel right now.

s out of nacanowhere, which has been sending serious db talent to p5 the last couple of years.

I think Mittie, Taylor and Wilkins could all play DE. Patton could play DT. Think a few of those guys can play multiple spots. Regardless, need two more guys for the DL in addition to Nanai and Lynch. #s and injuries killed this group that forced a guard to DT and burn a RS for only two games.

Saul... DaRyan Williams is not a new offer. We've offered and he's been to TXST with that offer for a visit. I like him and think he could play OLB like Griffin. Safety is the other obvious choice.

Best way to watch twitter is go to Withers page and see who he is following. Then I check to see how many other Asst. Coaches are following the recruit. That to me tells me the priority on recruiting that kid. If I don't even see Withers following a recruit, I'm not sure he's a priority. Works for me and for the most part has been pretty accurate.

I agree that we have players that have shown to be interchangeable but I doubt that was the defensive plan/scheme to have to do that. As you can guess, there is a reason in a 3-4 there is a DT, NT, and DE listed and a coach recruits for that. My point is when a DT plays DE, he doesn't play it likely the same way a coach recruits a DE to play it (loss of quickness off the snap, ability to get around a OL with speed/quickness). This leads to my point that Lawrence decommitted but we were likely looking to go another direction too. Do we need another true DT in this class? Not really. Need is at DE. Even NT has 5 bodies (Awad, Patton, Daniels, Lilly, and Nanai committed)... doubt we'd use one of our last 4 ships on another NT.

It should be quite interesting to see how we finish. Last year, we had a few decommits in a row from OL, OL, to TE to NT and then added a 3* NT, 3* CB (both redshirted), and a mystery OT King and DT Wilkins. Recruiting is always interesting.

When is the early signing period again?

I know it's in here somewhere, but too lazy to look.

Me too. Same for JC DE Wick. Both look the part and both seem to be DEs at good size... now.
