I was taking the Bobcat Club survey that El Gato mentioned in another thread regarding parking and it got to thinking ... How valuable is the bobcat club donor parking lot?
Now I know that ideally, many have mentioned that the San Marcos housing authority area would be the best tract of land to buyout and to build facilities on, however I assume displacing people can be a sticky situation, additionally it would require the purchase of a new tract for the new housing authority to relocate too.
So as an alternative, I started dreaming of a indoor or combination of both indoor/outdoor practice facility that would be placed on that tract of land the university already owns.... the bobcat donor parking lot 1, 2 & 3.
The tricky piece is that annoying secondary line of railroad track that divides the lot from the baseball fields. The funny thing is that if you follow the tracks on Google Maps... it reconnects further south with the same set of tracks that it deviated from. Now I'm no railroad line expert but I'm curious how much push back the university would have to overcome to have the railroad line owner consider retiring that small segment of the tracks. Someone who might know... please chime in to shed reality.
So here is my thought ... obviously the railroad line creates a problem with using the entire tract of the lot, but if it were an option... the university could build some decent facilities there. Would any of you fellow Bobcat Club members be willing to forego that area for development?
I'm not photoshop expert so bear with my skills... but I tired to photoshop the practice facility from the University of Florida from relatively the same Google Maps viewing perspective in order to provide how useful that land could be. Heck the UT bubble in Austin could fit there... but that aerial photo of the bubble looked like a dump compared to Florida State or this more modest UF aerial that seemed to be relatively the same shape.
I Know, I Know... we don't have the donors and the same money compared to these other schools, that is not my point to compare us, just attempting to ideate what could be our next steps to improve a recruits desire to come to TXST.
Something like this would exponentially help with the recruiting here.
