Post Desert Swarm/Look at Cal Poly
Here is a look into what the Desert Swarm is capable of as well as a look at Cal Poly our first opponent. It is a highlight film of their Rover LB that is probably going to the NFL. Kyle Shotwell was the Buck Buchanan award winner last year.

music doesn't seem to fit the part, but let's hope we have some LB core that steps up and does the same damage he did.

I've said before that I am super psyched about this defense. It is one of the few I've seen that does a good job of handling higher-octane offenses, particularly spread and its relatives (zone read, etc.). They did an excellent job shutting us down in the playoffs in '05 and our offense was pretty potent. With these offenses gaining more popularity in college football, I'm excited to see us adapting.

Looks like it would be confusing for the offense. The DT's were dropping into coverage and all sorts or stuff.

Randy Moshier made Gocong a little punk, and the Bobcats rolled those Mustangs.

True, they lost...but more because of Mr. Evans and company. ;)

Gocong had 2 sacks in that game, if my memory serves correctly.

folks,

Just to let you know how good that Defense can be with the right personnel - the last THREE Buchanan Award winners have come from Cal Poly.

2004 Jordan Beck (with the Falcons)
2005 Chris Gocong (with the Eagles)
2006 Kyle Shotwell (probably will be drafted) - BTW - he took Beck's place

Kyle Shotwell was actually the Mike LB (middle LB). Number 32 Mark Restelli is the Rover.

If recording 11 tackles including 1.5 sacks is being made a little punk, than I guess Moshier made Gocong a little punk.

I have to tip my hat to Texas State's 2005 defense. That is the side of the ball that won they playoff game against Cal Poly. Cal Poly held one of the top offenses in 2005 to 14 points. What makes that even more impressive is that Cal Poly's offense had a ton of three and outs. Evans was a beast in the middle for the Bobcats.

I remember that game pretty well and Gocong made quite an impact.

Maybe he didn't sack Barrick 3 or 4 times but he was able to get back there and force him to move around. Moshier did a good job, but Gocong was darn good that day.
