DOLPHINS NOTEBOOK
Evans' troubles continue
BY JEFF DARLINGTON
jdarlington@MiamiHerald.com

Dolphins defensive tackle Fred Evans will have more than a little explaining to do if he ever has the opportunity to meet with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell about his off-field behavior.

Evans, who was arrested on multiple charges Sunday morning including battery on a police officer, already is on probation in Texas from an arrest in February. Evans later pleaded no contest to the charge of misdemeanor marijuana possession.

Carolyn Olson, the prosecuting attorney on that case, potentially could factor Evans' more recent arrest in Florida when deciding whether a probation violation has occurred.

''The probation department will verify whatever information they receive,'' said Olson, who works in Colorado County, where the arrest occurred. ``They will send a violation report to me if they feel like it's substantiated.

``Then, I'll review it and make a decision on whether to file the motion to potentially revoke probation.''

Regardless of what happens legally, Evans -- entering his second season -- is now more likely to suffer major punishment from the league, because it is his second arrest in a year.

Coach Cam Cameron said Sunday's arrest will be treated ''seriously,'' which likely is a reaction to the fact that it wasn't the first incident the team has taken issue with.

TAYLOR A FINALIST

Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor is in the running for ESPN's honor as Best NFL Player of 2006.

Taylor, the league's reigning Defensive Player of the Year, was nominated for the award along with five other players.

Fans can vote until July 7 at ESPN.com.

MUELLER'S DEAL

Although specifics have not been determined, the Dolphins have extended general manager Randy Mueller's contract beyond June 2008, when it was scheduled to expire.

Wow Fred... I hate that you made a couple of these bad decisions since leaving town.

I've got a feeling his probation is about to be revoked and his NFL career is in serious jeopardy. Sucks, because he looked really promising.

NFL Europa is controlled by the NFL and is about to go under.

The way he's going right now- he'd be lucky to be in an alphabet league right now!

Wow - what the NFL - and Drew Rosenhous can do to a great person....

Very good probability his probation is revoked for something like that. Just dumb choices. Unfortunately his probation is in Texas and not California.......

If Miami ever wanted to make a PR move and show they take the league conduct policy seriously, now's their chance. Fred didn't cost much money and hasn't contributed once on the field. There's not a lot of incentive for his team to be in his corner.

Not sure he will ever play in Miami now. Maybe someone else will pick him up but I think he is done for this season.

You guys probably don't even wanna see this but anyway.

Here's a link to an article with a pic of his mug shot. It's pretty rough.

Click on the video for the local news station report on the story.

I feel bad for Fred. I've gotten my ass in trouble before, but not like that. I hope he gets picked up by another team and gets a another chance.

Should be an NFL rule - all "fresh-outs" have to take their Momma or their Granny (whichever one is meaner) to the league with them so she can whip their butt when they just THINK about f'ing up. And some players just have to keep their Momma with them until they retire. This would save the coaches a tremendous amount of pain. Everybody knows that no matter how big these boys get - every single one of them is still afraid of making Momma angry.

It's sad that a person would need their "momma" around to act civil.
