In the TXST press conference, Benson mentioned some re-branding of the Sun Belt in 2013. Do you think he is considering changing the name? I think it would help the image of the SBC and would put us on a level playing field with CUSA and MWC. (say what you want about the name change from SWT to TXST, but it worked)

The name change from SWT to TXST did not occur in a vacuum, nor would it have "worked" in one. It worked in conjunction with the larger plan to improve the university.

Without a similarly well thought out plan to improve the Sun Belt, a name change will have no appreciable impact.

Nothing that can be boiled down to "SAC" - - - too close to utsa: nUTSAck.

The Sun Belt may need to change its name only because that name has become synonymous with the most infantile struggling conference in the FBS. Conference USA was able to brand itself new, but it had members who were beating AQ conference schools from the get-go. Really would hate to see the Sun Belt name go, but I could understand why that may be necessary.

But changing the name and then touting having BCS Buster Team X on national TV increases perception a BUNCH.

You're thinking of the Division II Gulf South Conference, but there still is a such thing as the Gulf Coast Conference. It just doesn't pertain to athletics.

No. Your fellow Bobcat was correct. There is a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (http://www.gcaconf.com/) at the NAIA level.

These all sound like DII NAIA conferences. We just need to go to the Sun Belt and make the best of it.

Most fans of the conference agree that the Sun Belt Conference name is fine, but we would like to see them rebrand it around the letters SBC. Concentrate on creating a logo and referring to the conference as SBC. A simple SBC logo would be nice and do away with the graphic of the sun entirely.

I could go for that... I just think the moniker of Sun Belt has a poor perception to the average fan.

It's not reality, but unfortunately perception drives most things.

If you change the name the first comment out of everyone's mouth will be "I've never heard of it" to which you will reply "it used to be called the Sunbelt".

Anyone who follows college football knows that the Sunbelt is an FBS conference. Rename it and everyone wonder.
