I genuinely believe this defensive unit will be our best since the 2005 semi final team. Williams is going to be a moose in the middle. Did you see him dominate in the Alamo Dome? I see him starting. If the DT from Kilgore is as good as advertised watch out for these two plus Jackson to raise havoc on SLC offensive units this year.

We have strong linebackers with speed.

This secondary will have the best speed and agility since the 2005 secondary. If our QB matures then we will have playoff potential and provide the element of surprise to the rest of the SLC

IMO We have more team speed on defense than we did in 2005. The big question is the DL. I have full confidence in our LBs and DBs. This year will tell us if speed can make up for size on the DL.

The big question for me is... Will the DB coach teach the DBs to look for the ball this year?

as long bleil is here i dont see them doing all that great he keeps that red zone coverage crap. its like he tells everyone ok were good until theyre about to score so take it easy til then...then its too late... my opinion

Yeah, that was the achilles heel of the '05 team, since we are comparing the two.

The defense was pretty poor in 2005. Northern Iowa just scored again....

Sadly, our matador defense has regressed even further.

I'm still worried about the D-line. This is probably the one position where there are more unknowns than even the QB position. We've got practically brand new people at that position and While I think that Williams will be a superstar DL for us in a couple of years he is still fresh out of high school. DeShun will be facing linemen who have the benefit of several years of working on their technique and also in the weight room. In other words, it won't be any where near as easy as it was in high school for him.

Besides I'm still looking to have the type of defenses that we had back in the late nineties and early 2000s. Now those were awesome defenses. The 2005 defense, while better than anything we've had since then, was a slightly above average FCS defense.

We have been lacking impact playmakers since Fred Evans. He could change the game on his own. We don't make the offense plan around any of our players. They pretty much go out there and do what they want to do. Hopefully some of these new guys can be that impact player.

It's hard to compare the defense of today with the defense of late 90's and early 2000. They game so much different with spread offenses. I think our defense is built to stop or slow down spread offenses like SFA. Most teams today run some version of the zone read as opposed to the dive.

Think that if our lines, both O and D, stay healthy and we get productivity out of our QB, that we have a chance to win conference.

Just my 2 cents but I feel really good about the next few years with this year being the most challenging.

I belive our back 7 will be the most talented of Wright's & possibly Bailiff's tenure no question. How will the front 4 hold up? That will be the answer to the question of best Defense possibly of the decade.
