Texas State’s October 9th game at Southeastern Louisiana along with its November 6th home game against Central Arkansas are slated to be televised by the regional network.

Entering its third year of programming, the network has affiliate commitments from 14 stations in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas, which improves the market reach over the previous two years.

“We are very excited to release our 2010 football broadcast schedule and an expanded list of affiliate stations in the Southland Conference’s three-state region,” Burnett said. “The Southland Network has continued to grow and more broadcasters have expressed interest in our programming. We are also very proud of new breakthrough over-the-air agreements in markets like Dallas-Fort Worth, San Antonio, Austin and New Orleans.”

The network’s television schedule gets underway Sept. 25 with the only non-conference game to be televised by the network this season. Sam Houston State will play host to Gardner-Webb of the Big South Conference. It is the only Saturday game the network will carry with a 6:00 p.m. kickoff. All other Saturday games will kick off at 2:00 p.m.

Southland Conference play begins on Oct. 2 and the network will carry the McNeese State at Northwestern State game that day. Other October games include Central Arkansas at Stephen F. Austin on Oct. 16, Stephen F. Austin vs. Sam Houston State on Oct. 23 at Reliant Stadium in Houston and Southeastern Louisiana at Central Arkansas on Oct. 30.

The network will televise four games in November, including Nicholls at Northwestern State Nov. 13, Southeastern Louisiana at Nicholls on Thursday, Nov. 18, and a wild card game Nov. 20. The league will determine that matchup at a later date based on the conference race. The possible games include McNeese State at Central Arkansas, Northwestern State at Stephen F. Austin and Texas State at Sam Houston State. The Thursday night game between Southeastern and Nicholls Nov. 18 will be televised at 6 p.m.

There are eight Texas affiliates that will carry the league’s 10-game football schedule, including WFAA-TV, Ch. 8.2 (Dallas-Fort Worth), KHOU-TV, Ch. 11.2 (Houston), KCWX-TV, Ch. 2 (San Antonio), KBVO-TV, Ch. 51 (Austin), KRGV-TV, Ch. 5.3 (Harlingen-Weslaco-Brownsville-McAllen), KCEN-TV, Ch. 9.2 (Waco-Temple-Bryan), MyTX 18 (Tyler-Longview-Lufkin-Nacogdoches) and KUIL-TV, Ch. 43 (Beaumont-Port Arthur). The network will be carried in Louisiana by four affiliates, including WUPL-TV, Ch. 54 (New Orleans), KPXJ-TV, Ch. 21 (Shreveport), WBTR-TV, Ch. 41 (Baton Rouge) and KVHP-TV, Ch. 29.2 (Lake Charles). KARZ-TV, Ch. 42 (Little Rock-Pine Bluff) and KPXJ-TV, Ch. 21 (Texarkana) will televise network offerings in Arkansas.

The FieldTurf Duraspine PRO turf system and its patented sand and rubber infill system will replace the all-rubber surface that was previously on Jim Wacker Field. The announcement was jointly made by Texas State athletic director Larry Teis and FieldTurf president Eric Daliere.

The decision to upgrade to FieldTurf Duraspine PRO from the previous Astroplay surface was an easy one, according to the Bobcat administration.

“When we set out to replace our field, safety, best value, and strength of the insured warranty were three of the most important factors we were looking at when comparing vendors,” said Teis. “We took the time and traveled throughout the State of Texas looking at different stadiums, and when it was all said and done, we chose FieldTurf. We are extremely proud to have the latest in artificial turf innovation installed at Bobcat Stadium.”

“Getting the most out of your athletes’ abilities is extremely important,” said Bobcat head football Coach Brad Wright. “FieldTurf’s sand and rubber infill system and other features make it one of the safest and highest performing artificial turf products in the world. Moreover, their safety data at the college football level also was very important to me as a coach.”

“We are extremely pleased that the Bobcats have put their confidence in our company and our product,” stated Daliere. “Our Duraspine PRO product is the new standard in artificial turf and will allow the Bobcats to benefit from a more durable artificial grass blade that is also significantly softer than any other in the industry. Combined with our patented infill system’s renowned safety traits, we are committed to ensuring that the Bobcats play on the highest performing artificial turf surface.”

Texas State becomes one of the first NCAA or NFL teams to use the Duraspine Pro FieldTurf. Texas State joins the New England Patriots, Sacramento State and the University of Arizona as organizations that have opted for the latest in innovation from the world leader in artificial turf.

Quarterbacks Tim Hawkins and Eric Soza combined to complete 14 of their 25 passes for 126 yards and six touchdowns in Texas State’s annual Maroon/Gold scrimmage on Saturday night at Bobcat Stadium. The controlled scrimmage included 98 plays and featured the first-team offense playing against the first-team defense, and the second-team offense squaring off against the second-team defense with each drives starting from the 30, 50, 20 and three-yard lines.

Soza led the way as he completed 9 of his 14 passes for 85 yards and four touchdowns, while Hawkins threw for 41 yards and two TDs in the scrimmage.

“I thought we had two quarterbacks step up tonight and show that they can win some games for us next fall,” Texas State head coach Brad Wright. “They have a long way to go, but this was the best they have played all spring.”

In addition to his two quarterbacks, Wright was pleased with the play of running backs Dexter Imade and Frank Reddic. Imade gained 79 yards and scored two touchdowns on 12 carries. Imade scored the first touchdown in the scrimmage on a 10-yard run off left guard. His second touchdown was a 20-yard burst up the middle. Reddic finished the scrimmage with 69 yards on 18 carries.

“I thought both ran the ball well tonight,” Wright said. “Frank was a little ahead of Dexter last season and played for us when Karrington Bush went down. This spring, Dexter reported to practice at 205 pounds and has run downhill like a 205-pound back should.”

Overall, Texas State gained 367 yards on 98 plays on offense.

“This was the offense’s night,” Wright said. “When you play against each other in spring practice, that is going to happen sometimes. I think the improved play of our quarterbacks might have caught the defense a little off guards, but we have a lot of returning players on that side of the ball, so I am confident that we will be improved on that side of the ball.

Linebackers Brian Lilly and Bryan Iwuji led the defensive unit as they combined for 20 tackles and each had a tackle for a loss. Lilly led the Bobcats with 11 stops, including four solo tackles and intercepted a pass by Soza on the final play of the scrimmage.

“We have four more practices and another scrimmage next week, so we have a chance to make a lot of improvements on both sides of the ball,” Wright said. “We will look and evaluate the film, and work to improve some of the things we did wrong tonight and keep getting better at the things we did well. “

Texas State will open the 2010 season at Houston on September 4, and play its first home game against Southern Arkansas on September 11 at 6:00 p.m. in Bobcat Stadium.
