Texas State’s October 9th game at Southeastern Louisiana along with its November 6th home game against Central Arkansas are slated to be televised by the regional network.

Entering its third year of programming, the network has affiliate commitments from 14 stations in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas, which improves the market reach over the previous two years.

“We are very excited to release our 2010 football broadcast schedule and an expanded list of affiliate stations in the Southland Conference’s three-state region,” Burnett said. “The Southland Network has continued to grow and more broadcasters have expressed interest in our programming. We are also very proud of new breakthrough over-the-air agreements in markets like Dallas-Fort Worth, San Antonio, Austin and New Orleans.”

The network’s television schedule gets underway Sept. 25 with the only non-conference game to be televised by the network this season. Sam Houston State will play host to Gardner-Webb of the Big South Conference. It is the only Saturday game the network will carry with a 6:00 p.m. kickoff. All other Saturday games will kick off at 2:00 p.m.

Southland Conference play begins on Oct. 2 and the network will carry the McNeese State at Northwestern State game that day. Other October games include Central Arkansas at Stephen F. Austin on Oct. 16, Stephen F. Austin vs. Sam Houston State on Oct. 23 at Reliant Stadium in Houston and Southeastern Louisiana at Central Arkansas on Oct. 30.

The network will televise four games in November, including Nicholls at Northwestern State Nov. 13, Southeastern Louisiana at Nicholls on Thursday, Nov. 18, and a wild card game Nov. 20. The league will determine that matchup at a later date based on the conference race. The possible games include McNeese State at Central Arkansas, Northwestern State at Stephen F. Austin and Texas State at Sam Houston State. The Thursday night game between Southeastern and Nicholls Nov. 18 will be televised at 6 p.m.

There are eight Texas affiliates that will carry the league’s 10-game football schedule, including WFAA-TV, Ch. 8.2 (Dallas-Fort Worth), KHOU-TV, Ch. 11.2 (Houston), KCWX-TV, Ch. 2 (San Antonio), KBVO-TV, Ch. 51 (Austin), KRGV-TV, Ch. 5.3 (Harlingen-Weslaco-Brownsville-McAllen), KCEN-TV, Ch. 9.2 (Waco-Temple-Bryan), MyTX 18 (Tyler-Longview-Lufkin-Nacogdoches) and KUIL-TV, Ch. 43 (Beaumont-Port Arthur). The network will be carried in Louisiana by four affiliates, including WUPL-TV, Ch. 54 (New Orleans), KPXJ-TV, Ch. 21 (Shreveport), WBTR-TV, Ch. 41 (Baton Rouge) and KVHP-TV, Ch. 29.2 (Lake Charles). KARZ-TV, Ch. 42 (Little Rock-Pine Bluff) and KPXJ-TV, Ch. 21 (Texarkana) will televise network offerings in Arkansas.

A total of 38 players from around the country have been selected to take part in the six-day tryout before the roster is whittled to 22 players on July 12.

Smith learned of the news on Thursday morning.

“Coach Harrington called me this morning and told me that I made the tryout,” Smith said. “I’m excited to get out there with the opportunity to play for Team USA.”

Smith, a native of Midland, Texas, recently completed his first season with the Bobcats after playing one season at Grayson County Community College. The ace of head coach Ty Harrington’s pitching staff, Smith received Southland Conference Pitcher of the Year and Newcomer of the Year accolades this season after posting a 10-4 record and 3.10 earned run average. He struck out 94 batters while throwing six complete games, including three shutouts.

The 6-foot-5 right-hander also made his mark on the Texas State record book as his three shutouts tied him for the highest single-season total in the program’s history. His 10 wins tied him for fourth most in single-season history, while his 94 strikeouts are the 10th most in a season.

“It’s certainly an honor to have Carson represent our team, university and possibly our country with the invitation to tryout for the USA Baseball National Team,” Harrington said. “He is an excellent player and has proven it time-and-time on the field this season. I know he’ll excel at this opportunity, and we’re all very excited to see what happens.”

Smith, the first-ever Texas State baseball player to receive an invitation for the national team, will gear up for the tryout over the next month with his summer baseball team in Santa Barbara, Calif.

If selected for the final roster, Smith will have the opportunity to play in several different cities in the United States before traveling to Taiwan and then Japan, the location of the 2010 FISU World University Baseball Championships. The Championships will run from July 30 to August 7 in Tokyo.

This season, Texas State is ranked in three preseason polls after finishing the 2009 campaign ranked No. 24 in the FCS Coaches poll and No. 25 in The Sports Network poll. The Bobcats are ranked No. 13 by Lindy’s, No. 21 by The FCS Now poll and No. 25 by Athlon.

Texas State’s offensive unit is headlined by record-setting senior wide receiver Da’Marcus Griggs and junior guard D. J. Hall, who both have been named among the nation’s top FCS players at their respective positions by The Sports Network and preseason Honorable Mention All-America selections. Last season, Griggs caught 80 passes for 969 yards and eight touchdowns. Hall is a two-time All-Southland Conference selection who has started 24 straight seasons for the Bobcats at right guard.

On defense, senior Marcus Clark returns at linebacker after leading the Bobcats in tackles with 99 in his third season as a starter in 2009. Hutcherson is scheduled to tee off 1:45 p.m. on Thursday, May 20 on the Number One tee. He will begin the second round at 10:00 a.m. on the Number 10 tee at the TPC Four Seasons Las Colinas Golf Club in Irving.

Hutcherson, who resides in San Marcos, qualified to play in the tournament after shooting an eight-under-par 64 in a qualifying tournament that was held on Monday, May 17, at the Stonebridge Ranch Country Club in McKinney. He tied Trevor Fisher of Fort Worth for the low rounds and was one of four golfers to qualify to play in the 2010 Byron Nelson Classic. There was a three-way tie for the other two spots after Will Collins of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Jason Shultz of Dallas, and Bradley Ott of Frisco, Texas each finished the round at seven-under-par. Collins and Shultz both made par on the first playoff hole to qualify.

The 85 competitors included players from the PGA Tour, Nationwide Tour, Champions Tour as well as 54 players that had advanced to the Open Qualifying from Pre-Qualifying. .

This marks the first time that Hutcherson has played in a PGA Tour event. He has played three seasons on the Adams Golf Pro Tour Series, where he has three Top 10 finishes in his career. His first Top 10 showing came on May 1-4, 2008, when he finished in third place at the Capital One Classic with a nine-under-par score on the Ellendale Country Club course in Houma, La.

He opened the 2010 season tying for eighth place at the Coca Cola Wal-Mart Open presented by Million Air after shooting 11 under par at the OakWing Golf Club on March 17-20 in Alexandria, La. He also tied for third place at the Jamie Hilton’s Hillcrest Children’s Golf Classic on April 28-May 1 after shooting an even par 288 score at the Twin Rivers Golf Club in Waco, Texas. In between those two tournaments, Hutcherson won the 2010 Austin Open on April 17-18 at the Grey Rock Golf Club.

A native of Memphis, Hutcherson played two seasons at Texas State in 2005-07 after transferring from Midland College in 2005. His best finish during his senior season was at the Middle Tennessee Intercollegiate when he tied for sixth place after shooting even par 72s in each of the three rounds. He graduated in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science and sports.
