Ties & Wright Make Statements Over Contract Saga
November 11, 2009
Statement from Texas State University Director of Athletics Larry Teis
We are pleased with the progress Coach Brad Wright has made with the Texas State Bobcat football team. Last week’s win over the University of Central Arkansas guaranteed Texas State consecutive winning seasons for the first time since the early 1990s, and that is a significant milestone for us.
When we hired Coach Wright to lead the team two and a half years ago, his starting salary was $150,000. During his tenure as head coach, he has received salary increases totaling more than 16 percent, making his current base salary $174,686 plus bonuses.
Contract negotiations are considered private personnel matters at Texas State, but we are happy with Brad’s performance and we fully expect him to be our head football coach next year. We plan to offer him a multi-year contract extension at the end of this season.
In the mean time, Coach Wright, his staff and his players are focused on winning our second straight Southland Conference football championship. We are proud of them and share that focus. We look forward to a great game this weekend at Bobcat Stadium against McNeese State.
Statement from Texas State University Football Head Coach Brad Wright
“I know that the news of our contract situation has reached the national level via “Football Scoop” and other media outlets. I am pleased to say that Dr. Larry Teis has announced that he will offer me a multiyear deal here at Texas State. As you know, my heart has always been here.
We hope that this has not been a distraction to our team’s preparation. We will need to be completely focused and have every possible edge to defeat McNeese State this weekend.”
Brad Wright
