Volleyball Hosts CenturyTel Premier

Texas State volleyball hosts its annual CenturyTel Premier Sept. 11-12. This year’s participating teams hail from the Big 12, Colonial and SWAC conferences. The three teams joining Texas State in the tournament will be Hofstra, Texas Southern and Texas A&M. The first match is set to start at 10:00am, Friday, Sept. 11 with the last one beginning at approximately 7:00pm. The first match on Saturday will start at 12:00pm and the last one will begin around 2:00pm.
Texas State (1-7) is 12-10 overall in CenturyTel Premier play; dating back to 2003. The Bobcats are led by outside hitter Jessica Weynand who leads the team with 94 kills and 75 digs. Weynand has surpassed 900 kills and is on her way to reaching the 1,000 kill club as she currently has 927 under her belt.
Hofstra enters the tournament with a 1-6 overall record. They beat Stony Brook 3-2 on Tuesday night to garner their first win of the season and snap a six match losing streak. The Pride are being led by outside hitter, Monica Knight who has tallied 103 kills to lead Hofstra.
Texas Southern (4-3) is on a four-match win streak with wins against Dillard, Mississippi Valley, Prairie View A&M and Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The Tigers are being led by a pair of middle blockers Emma Obi and Ashlee Cooper, both tallying over 50 kills apiece.
Texas A&M (4-1) is on a two-match win streak after wins against San Francisco and the Italian National Team. The Aggies are led by Sarah Ammerman, who has recorded 65 kills and 35 digs for A&M already this season.
Texas State will play its first match of the CenturyTel Premier on Friday at 12:00pm against Texas Southern and play Hofstra at 7:00pm. They will match up against Texas A&M on Saturday at 2:00pm to close out the CenturyTel Premier.
