The Trailers Are Coming

Food trailers bring foodie heaven to San Marcos

by Rodney Mishler

If you’ve driven down E. Hopkins lately, you’ve undoubtedly noticed that the infamous black building at the corner of C.M. Allen Parkway  has a new sign out front. The Hitch: A Mobile Eatery will bring a little piece of foodie heaven to San Marcos with its array of vendor owned food trailers. These trendy trailers are popping up all over the country and now we’re getting a few of our own. Here’s the low-down on which gourmet grub-out spots will be calling San Marcos home.

The Hitch will officially open for business this week but specific vendors may have different schedules for when each station will be ready to serve. While only two trailers have been confirmed, Hitch developers are working hard to convince Austin-based icons like Chilantro BBQ and Turf-N-Surf that San Marcos is the place to be. If any of the rumors we’ve heard are true, hungry San Martians can expect some of the most popular food names in Austin to make their way south. We will be sure to post updates via Facebook when more are confirmed.

Spots at The Hitch can be rented to an established  business looking to expand or an unknown chef dreaming of worldwide recognition. The trailers will initially open out back, but plans to tear the building down depend on the food trailers’ success. For the sake of beautification, let’s hope they thrive.

Here is a brief run down of who is confirmed to open a trailer:

Wimberley’s gourmet sandwich restaurant The Leaning Pear will bring their Hill Country creativity to San Marcos in the form of a heavenly food trailer. You won’t have to wait outside the pearly gates, but if the current menu is any indication of what we can expect, you will have to wait in line!
