The Bobcats beat St. Edward’s 84-66 in an exhibition game a few weeks ago, but now they are ready to officially start the season off this week.
Last year, Texas State advanced to the Southland Conference Tournament for the second consecutive year, with the Bobcats posting a 15-16 overall record and a 9-7 in league record.
Texas State returns four starters from last year’s squad, including seniors Cameron Johnson, Uriel Segura and Ryan White and junior John Bowman. Johnson led Texas State in scoring, rebounding and steals. White was first on the team in assists, while Segura and Bowman both earned time at the guard spot.
Scouting Sul Ross State
Sul Ross was picked to finish fourth in the American Southwest Conference West Division preseason polls. Returning for the Lobos is ASC honorable mention pick Jimmy Martinez. Martinez averaged 11.7 points per game last season and led the Lobos in steals with 60. Sul Ross State returns nine players from last year’s squad that finished 9-17, 6-6 ASC. The Lobos will begin this season without their top two scorers and top five rebounders from 2009-10.
Scouting Texas State
Texas State is led by preseason all-conference pick Cameron Johnson. Johnson led Texas State in scoring, rebounding and steals last year. Entering his senior season, Johnson looks to lead the Bobcats to bigger and better things in 2010-11. To go along with Johnson and the three other returning starters from last year, the Bobcats have added nine newcomers. Among the newcomers are A.J. Stewart, a transfer from Kentucky, Eddie Rios (University of Miami) and Matt Staff (New Mexico).
