St. Edward’s defeated 84-66 in Exhibition Victory

Cameron Johnson scored 15 points and grabbed five rebounds, while three other Bobcats also scored in double digits to lift Texas State to an 84-66 victory over St. Edward’s tonight at Strahan Coliseum.
Senior Jonathan Sloan had 13 points and nine boards, just shy of a double-double. John Bowman tallied 11 points to go along with seven rebounds and Travis Jones added 10 points.
The Bobcats got off to a 7-0 run to start the game thanks to a trio of seniors – Johnson, J.B. Conley and Tony Bishop. Texas State’s biggest lead of the first half came with 5:30 left when Ryan White sinked a pair of free throws to give the Bobcats an 18-point lead. A lay-up by Bowman with time winding down gave Texas State a 13-point edge heading into halftime.
Texas State began the second half with five of its first-seven points coming from Sloan in the paint. Johnson took control of the ball as he scored 10 of his 15 points in the second half. The Bobcats pushed the lead to as much as 23 when Sloan made a lay-up with 7:20 to go in the game.
Chris Wacker scored 14 points to lead St. Edward’s, while Taylor Carr added 12 points on 83.3 percent shooting.
The Bobcats will open up the regular season on Friday, Nov. 12 at 7:30 p.m. against Sul Ross State.
