The Texas State football team will hold a Maroon vs. Gold controlled scrimmage on Saturday, March 20, at 6:45 p.m. on the Jim Wacker Field at Bobcat Stadium. Gates for the scrimmage will open at 5:30 on the west side of the stadium and fans are encouraged to tailgate in the parking lot prior to the start of the scrimmage. Admission for the scrimmage is free.
The scrimmage will feature the Bobcat offensive units playing against the defensive units in a controlled scrimmage with game officials. The football will be placed at different positions on the field with the offensive units trying to move the ball under a standard four-down format until either they score or the defensive holds. The first-team offense will line up against the first team defense. When the offense scores or is forced to punt, the second-team offense will compete against the second-team defense. Each group will continue to rotate in this manner for 75-90 minutes.
The Bobcats return 42 letterman from last season’s team that posted a 7-4 record and was ranked 25 th in the final NCAA FCS polls. Among the 42 returning lettermen, Texas State has 20 lettermen returning on offense, 18 lettermen returning on defense and three specialists returning from the 2009 season.
This will be the second scrimmage for the Bobcats this spring as Texas State concludes its spring practice on Mar. 26 in preparations for the 2010 season that kicks off on September 4 at Houston. The Bobcats play their first home game on September 11 against Southern Arkansas at Bobcat Stadium. Texas State also plays host to Cal Poly on September 18 and Southern Utah on September 18. All three home games kick off at 6:00 p.m.
After opening its Southland Conference schedule at Southeastern Louisiana on October 9, the Bobcats return home to play host to Nicholls on October 16 at 6:00 p.m. The Bobcats also play Northwestern State on October 23 in its annual Homecoming game at 3:00 p.m. Texas State travels to Stephen F. Austin on October 30 before playing host to Central Arkansas on November 6. The Bobcats conclude the regular season with road games at McNeese State on November 13 and at Sam Houston State on November 20.
